Northern Nevada HOPES sponsored GLCCNV's Pride in Business fundraiser in Reno, and their President & CEO, Sharon Chamberlain, spoke to our guests on "Waiting is a Decision." It was the talk people were still discussing at the after party. HOPES is a cornerstone of this community, and we're grateful for both their sponsorship and partnership!
I came to this facility seeking help for a serious mental health crisis after being referred by a social worker. Unfortunately, what followed was another frustrating experience. I initially went to the Wellness department on the second floor, but nobody seemed to know what I was talking about. I checked the building directory and found Behavioral Health listed on the third floor, so I went there, only to find the reception desk completely unattended. After wandering around trying to find someone who could help, I finally approached an employee and asked where Behavioral Health was. She pointed to the empty desk. When I explained that nobody was there, she told me I needed to go back to the second floor. I explained that I'd already been there, but she gave me specific instructions on what to say, so I went back and repeated them. I came here seeking help during a suicidal crisis, in a psychological state where I was struggling just to function. Instead of being connected with someone who could help, I was handed a large stack of bureaucratic paperwork. I tried to concentrate on it, but I simply couldn't. I put the paperwork down and walked out without receiving care. I wasn't frustrated simply because I had to navigate a building or complete paperwork. I was suicidal, barely functioning, and struggling to get help. What I think people fail to understand is that someone in a suicidal crisis may not even want to seek help. They may be doing so because society tells them there's another option, that help is available, and that they shouldn't give up on their life. So they make the effort to reach out, even when they're struggling just to hold themselves together. But what happens when they follow that advice and encounter nothing but confusion, bureaucracy, and seemingly indifferent responses? How much more effort can you reasonably expect from someone who is already struggling to stay alive? Someone in that condition may walk out and never make another attempt to seek help. The consequences aren't necessarily another dissatisfied patient or a bad review. The consequences could be someone's death. That's what makes this so disturbing. A facility dedicated to mental health care should understand what's at stake when someone in a suicidal crisis walks through its doors.

The people who schedule appointments have a very unpleasant attitude; they are very arrogant and never willing to help. I do not recommend this place at all for long-term treatment.
Takes forever on hold, transfered several times just to be told have to call back next day and appointments are 6 weeks out. Horrible health care (or notcare)
Called on 09/10/2026 at 5:35 PM to request a new patient appointment and the woman on the phone said call back another day as their New Patient employee isn't in. I called today 09/24/2026 at 3:29 PM asking to become a new patient and the woman never replies yes or no she just says "we are booking 6 weeks out". I feel like their supervisors and doctors should know their receptionist do absolutely nothing to encourage new patients or encourage those brave enough to seek Mental Health Help to get it. Absolutely appalling behavior by those who are supposed to help people.
Great staff
