📸 Suggest PhotosFunky is as close to a flagship gay nightclub as Taipei has — a dedicated dance venue deep in the Ximending network of lanes behind the Red House that has been drawing the city's LGBTQ+ crowd for years and continues to pack out its dance floor on weekends with an intensity that few venues in the neighborhood can match. The setting is industrial-inflected, with high ceilings, a serious sound system, professional lighting rigs, and a layout that funnels energy toward the central dance floor with an effectiveness that speaks to experience. The music programming is electronic-forward — house, techno, and commercial dance tracks that build through the night toward the small hours when the floor is at its most intense. The crowd skews younger than some of the neighborhood's more sedate bar options, and the energy is correspondingly higher. Funky hosts regular themed nights, circuit events, and visiting DJs, and its Halloween and Pride week parties have become Taipei circuit calendar fixtures that sell out in advance. Entry prices are reasonable by international standards and typically include a drink. The lane it occupies, tucked behind the Red House, is one of those locations that rewards simply walking the block and taking in the scene of the surrounding cluster of venues. Funky is the place to go when you want to dance hard in a room full of people who are there to do exactly the same thing.
