About this place Café Dalida

Café Dalida occupies a different register from the clubs and circuit bars that define Ximending's late-night energy. Named in tribute to the legendary Franco-Egyptian chanteuse Dalida — a queer icon of enormous significance in French and Mediterranean gay culture — this cafe-bar operates as a warm, intimate daytime and early-evening space that caters to the part of the LGBTQ+ community that wants conversation, good coffee, and a comfortable atmosphere rather than thumping bass. The decor is European-café-influenced with personal touches that reflect the owners' sense of camp and history: framed photographs, retro posters, and a playlist that genuinely honors the chanteuse tradition rather than using it as mere aesthetic dressing. The coffee is carefully made and the cocktail menu is compact but well-considered. During the afternoon and early evening, Café Dalida functions as a low-key hangout for local LGBTQ+ regulars and their friends, the kind of place where you sit down for one coffee and find yourself still there two hours later. It is particularly recommended for solo travelers wanting a gentle entry point into the Ximending scene, or for those who want to understand the quieter, more community-rooted side of Taipei's gay life beyond the clubs.

The outdoor drinking area, nestled among green plants, is very inviting, and a gentle breeze makes it pleasantly cool. If you're unsure which drinks to choose, the staff will suggest a few popular options. When my friends arrived, they even brought us chairs and a basin for our bags. When the crowd thinned out, they came to ask if we needed to move to a larger table – very thoughtful! The drinks were all quite good, fairly strong. The Iced Tea and Spicy Drink were excellent, and the Berry Delight was bursting with berry flavor – all increasingly delicious with each sip. For those who don't drink alcohol, there are also beverages available. The fried snacks like fries and fried chicken were served hot, and overall, I really enjoyed them and would definitely come back. They accept cash upfront. The restrooms have both squat and sitting stalls, with a separate area for men. The environment was clean, and there was even self-service chewing gum next to the sinks – a nice touch.

This whole row of bars in Ximen Red House is packed. We chose one that was always crowded, and it was definitely the right choice! I ordered a passion fruit majito. It was a bit strong. A rather spicy male bartender noticed I was drinking slowly and immediately came over to ask if I wanted more syrup. I asked how much they usually add. He said, "Can I add it as sweet as you?" (Such a cute interaction!) After adding it, he watched me finish and then asked if it suited my taste. It was so warm and thoughtful. The atmosphere in the bar was also very comfortable! I'll definitely come back!

The mango ice was really big! I suggest sharing with one or two other people.

The cocktails were well mixed and had the right amount of alcohol. The service was very friendly and the atmosphere relaxed. It is nice to sit outside in the middle of Taipei and not to get bothered by the traffic of the streets.
