What a great bar, so clean, new and modern! Feels very high end and the drinks are good too. First time in Sydney's gay scene and I love it. Here for new year and will definitely be back. Music was good and a high quality sound
It's a pretty good club, however, can you put some anti slip mats or something down where the stairs leading to the bathrooms are? Almost slipped this morning (might save you a potential future lawsuit). Also, when your dancers are about to come on or your trying to place your confetti cannons, can you ask people to move as oppose to shoving/pushing people (not everyone is off their face). It's pretty unprofessional (I actually thought someone wanted to punch on!.... it was so abrupt and forceful). If you say, hey can you please move in for a few minutes... you'll find that it works. Overall great music and vibe apart from what I mentioned above. I'll still give you a 4 despite the manhandling.
Didn’t eat here only drank 😋😋 some really cool drag danced by some very impressive drag queens ! Crowd is really strange but that’s not the clubs fault lol - music was really good consistently throughout the whole night. Also can’t express how much I appreciate not having an entry fee !! Felt a bit chockers at some points but I can’t complain, it’s nice to see a club full of gay people :)
I was clearly and deliberately refused entry, and it was evident that the decision was based on my appearance, with the claim that I was “drunk” being used merely as a pretext to cover what was, in reality, racial and ethnic discrimination. The moment I handed my ID to a security staff member, without being asked a single question or given any opportunity to explain, he immediately told me to leave, accusing me of being intoxicated in a sarcastic manner. When I calmly explained that I was not drunk, he laughed, mocked me, and spoke dismissively, saying words to the effect of “what are you telling me, you’re drunk,” while pointing at my clothing and belongings. At the time, I was wearing shorts and carrying normal personal items such as a power bank and a vape, which he pointed out sarcastically, continuing to ridicule me rather than conduct any form of assessment. This made it very clear that intoxication was not genuinely believed, and was simply being used as an excuse. I would also like to clearly state that I do not consume alcohol, both by personal choice and for health reasons, as I have thalassemia minor. Alcohol negatively affects my health, which further confirms that the allegation of intoxication was unfounded and inaccurate. No questions were asked, no assessment was made, and no attempt was taken to verify whether I was intoxicated. This was an immediate and humiliating dismissal, carried out publicly and without justification. Notably, no other person was refused entry at that time, while others were allowed in without any scrutiny. When another security staff member attempted to clarify the situation, the supervisor refused to listen to me or hear my side of the story, and made no effort to speak with me or assess the situation. This behavior further confirms that the decision was already made and reinforces the clear impression of discriminatory treatment. I fully understand that a venue has the legal right to refuse service. However, using that right to disguise discriminatory behavior based on race, ethnicity, colour, or identity is unacceptable and contradicts the values of fairness and equality. This incident was a real shock to me. I had been looking forward to this night for an entire year as a break from constant work pressure. Instead, I left feeling humiliated and deeply affected. I have formally lodged an official complaint with the relevant authorities and will continue to escalate this matter through all appropriate legal and regulatory channels. I do not accept or tolerate discriminatory treatment in a country that actively fights racism and discrimination. I strongly urge management to review the CCTV footage and seriously address the conduct of both the security staff member and the supervisor involved. No one should be treated this way.
I’ve noticed that in recent months, a lot of younger guests have been visiting Universal, and I think the music could use an update to better reflect that audience. As someone who visits almost every week, I’ve observed that the DJ’s set tends to be repetitive, with the same songs played every Saturday. While many of the tracks are classics and get people singing along, it might be time to refresh the playlist or bring in a new DJ with a wider variety of music styles. A more diverse and current selection could really enhance the overall atmosphere and experience for guests.
