Ryokan Hostel Gion

It might be a bit uncomfortable since it's a hostel and you have to share rooms, but even taking that into account, it is the best accommodation for the price.

The hostel as a whole doesn't seem to be cleaned properly, and it gives off a rather grimy impression in places. When you walk barefoot, the soles of your feet feel rough, the kitchen dirt is left as is even after three days including the weekend, and there is dust and small debris scattered in the cupboards. I was also shocked by how clogged the hairdryer filters were. Although I couldn't check, judging from the dirt on the air conditioners and vents in each room, I suspect that the filters inside are also heavily clogged with dust and mold, which is why I had the worst allergic reaction in recent years, and my throat and skin were itchy and miserable.

I'd give the bed, comforter, and pillows 5 stars because they're so comfortable! 😊

It's nice that you can stay there for just over 3,000 yen, but it's like a tiny room with bunk beds lined up... Well, at least there's a refrigerator and a microwave. There's no bath, of course, but a shower should be enough, right?

One of the best hostels I’ve ever stayed!!! I was supposed to stay in another place that was terrible so I found Ryokan hostel last minute and it was FANTASTIC! Spacious, beautiful, with great amenities and at an amazing location. Staff onsite. Very clean. They change towels everyday. I dont have enough compliments! Ps. I did everything on foot. It’s very central and close to a lot the main things to do.

The room itself wasn't as bad as I expected. Considering there were a dozen or so people and many of them were Westerners, everyone was well-mannered and quiet, so I just slept well. The location was also unbeatable, situated by the Kamo River with the Kiyomizu Temple course below. I was very satisfied considering the price.

very happy with my stay. excellent location, around 10 mins walk to a station. laundry machines across the street. provided a new towel everyday and they changed my bedsheets half way (upon request) because I was staying 4 nights. requested a bottom bunk and got it. everything clean and nice common area. no issues

A fantastic location; you can find attractions in every direction. Paid bicycles, coffee, and tea are available. The hotel is mostly frequented by Europeans and Americans, who are all very considerate in keeping it clean. Best of all, it provides a wealth of information, especially information and locations for vegetarian restaurants. I stayed for four days and cooked in the kitchenette for two of them. Very happy.

For those who dislike cigarette smells, there is absolutely no smoking smell anywhere inside the hostel. I will definitely choose this place again the next time I visit Kyoto.
