Citadines Connect Cecil Georgetown Penang

I think this hotel could actually do a lot more. I really like the design — every corner of the hotel looks beautiful and aesthetic. The staff were also friendly and helpful. The location is quite strategic and close to many places, although unfortunately the hotel is located on a one-way street, so some Grab drivers were reluctant to make the turn. A few times we ended up getting dropped off at the end of the road and had to walk to the hotel. One thing I really appreciated was the water dispenser on every floor. It made it very convenient to refill our drinking bottles anytime. What we didn’t really like was the room design. Although aesthetically pleasing, it felt less practical. The room was very small, to the point that it wasn’t really comfortable for praying. The TV was placed in the corner on the right side of the room, so watching from the bed felt a bit awkward. The bathroom cleanliness was okay overall, but the bidet had a separate on/off switch, so we had to keep turning it manually every time we wanted to use it. The biggest downside for me was finding a used eyelash stuck on the wall, which made it feel like the room cleaning wasn’t very thorough. Overall, the stay was okay, but probably not a hotel we would come back to.

I stayed in Citadines Connect Cecil Georgetown Penang in December 2025. This is a newly built, stylish hotel that aims to blend modern comfort with Penang’s heritage aesthetic. That said, the experience isn’t entirely perfect -- issues like noise, room size, and small maintenance lapses affected its overall value — especially at this price point. The lobby strikes a pleasant balance between boutique hotel polish and relaxed living-room comfort. I arrived nearly two hours before the official 3pm check-in, fully prepared to wait. Instead, I was welcomed warmly and allowed to check in early — a small gesture that immediately sets the tone. One of the most appreciated features is the self-service refreshment area in the lobby. Complimentary brewed coffee and tea are available all day. It’s not flashy, but it’s thoughtful — the kind of amenity Gen-X travellers quietly value. Room I booked the Superior King room for MYR272 per night. For an 18-square-metre room, it didn’t feel claustrophobic. The layout is efficient, modern, and generally well maintained. The bed was comfortable, with good pillows and crisp white linens. Air-conditioning was strong and reliable, and housekeeping did an excellent job keeping the room clean. That said, storage is minimal. The open clothes rack works for short stays, but for a week — even as a solo traveller — it felt limiting. A couple sharing this room would likely struggle. The small desk area doubles as a work surface, with a kettle, mini-fridge, and a glass flask for refilling filtered water from stations on every floor. This sustainability touch is genuinely well thought out. Wi-Fi is usable and secure. Speeds are fine for Zoom calls, though performance does dip noticeably during peak hours, and some reconnecting is required. The room has sheer curtains and blackout drapes, but my window faced directly into another room across a narrow skylight. It didn’t affect sleep, but it did feel a little awkward. It was also difficult to tell whether it was raining outside — a small thing, but one you notice after a few days. While my room was generally clean, I did encounter ants crawling along the wall one evening, which was unsettling. This seems to be a recurring issue mentioned by other guests. If you’re sensitive to this, bringing insect repellent isn’t a bad idea. The bathroom is modern and well finished, with grey stone-textured tiles and a glass-enclosed rainfall shower. Water pressure and hot water were excellent. Thoughtful details stood out: wall-mounted toiletries, a proper vanity kit, toothpaste set, glass tumblers, slippers, and a hairdryer neatly stored. Functionally, this was one of the strongest parts of the stay. A wide outdoor verandah runs along level two. If your room is on this floor, expect more noise — especially with nearby schools and busy roads. Some guests leave balcony doors open, allowing sound and dust into the corridor. When I contacted reception for assistance, response was slow and, at times, absent. This is one area where service consistency could improve. Facilities The indoor pool and gym are serviceable but modest. The pool is small, and the gym is limited to a few cardio machines, kettlebells, and exercise balls. They’re fine for light use, but not a deciding factor. The Cats A small family of cats lives just outside the hotel and appears well cared for by staff -- they were, unexpectedly, one of the most charming parts of my stay. Overall, Citadines Connect Cecil looks and feels closer to a four-star property, but the experience doesn’t always match the pricing. Great modern hotel, located in the quieter outskirts 15 mins walk from the centre of Georgetown. Staff are friendly and helpful. Rooms are spacious and clean. The swimming pool and fitness room are adequate for a quick workout. A great touch is water fountains on every floor serving hot and cold water. There is a big jug available in the room to fill up so you unlimited drinking water during your stay. Plenty of restaurants, hawker centre and bars within 5-10 mins walk around the hotel. There is a convenience store next door for drinks, snacks and last minute toiletries. A solid choice if you want a modern and quiet hotel.

Good location in Georgetown where it’s near Cecil Street market but not too crowded. The hotel design is minimalistic yet modern. It’s nice they serve free coffee for hotel guests 24/7. For a small hotel, they provide parking, gym & swimming pool which is quite good. The room was simple but offered all the necessities- a comfy bed, luggage storage, hair dryer, and towel. As the hotel is eco-friendly, they offer toothbrushes, comb, shaver upon request. There is water station to refill water. The pool and gym is 24/7 and good for a simple workout. Service by staffs here were friendly and helpful. Plus points to the team for taking good care of the cats there!

The restaurant is small and lovely, very clean, and has a swimming pool and gym. The front desk staff are friendly, and there's free self-service coffee in the lobby.

The hotel offers good value for money, with a 24-hour gym and swimming pool (though not very big). Most of the staff are Indian and speak English, and it's very close to the city center.

Convenient location, but the building too near to the school behind. Somehow the lighting in room not so well arrange for sleeping or night mode. Basic facilities - gym & swimming pool.

Had a really pleasant experience! Didn't manage to get his name but the male recept service was top notch. Very accommodating, friendly and gentlemen. Definitely will book again when I'm back to Penang for a holiday

Warm welcome upon check-in and a lovely surprise birthday decoration in our room made our stay very special. The room was simple but comfortable and clean. As it is a heritage house, there isn’t much of a view, but the location is excellent—right opposite the famous Cecil Market, which is great for breakfast. The hotel also provides a free shuttle to nearby tourist spots, and complimentary coffee is available in the lobby. Thank you to all the Citadines team members for the excellent service and warm hospitality.
