Chantaramas Beach Resort

The hotel is outdated, but the staff is professional. After making a double reservation through Agoda, neither company offered a refund or any compensation. We therefore had two rooms for the same dates. Regarding breakfast, there was no buffet on the second day! Why? In short, avoid this hotel; there are much better options on the island, and in a better location.

Overall, a nice hotel for a relaxing vacation. The staff and service are exceptional! Very friendly and always helpful. A selection of excursions can also be booked directly through the hotel. Unfortunately, the beach is not recommended, as it is very shallow. At low tide, it takes ages to reach the sea. Nearby beaches are easily accessible by scooter. The entire hotel complex and the rooms are somewhat dated. The breakfast is good, with a decent selection.

Very disappointed with this hotel. We arrived and immediately found that the property was rundown, and not maintained as shown online. The pool area also looked unsafe, and overall the environment did not feel comfortable or suitable for us to stay. The condition of the beach in the photos is not as shown online and some photos of the view from the room are AI generated.. Because of these concerns, we decided not to stay and had to book another hotel instead. We tried to request a refund, but unfortunately it was rejected. We also asked staff for assistance, but no real effort was made to help change room, and there was no manager available onsite to handle the problem. For a hotel advertised as 4-star, the standard was far below expectations. Some staff were friendly and helpful, especially the driver, and we appreciate that, but overall this was a very disappointing experience. Happy to continue to discuss with hotel management about how improvements can be made. So Feel UNCOMFORTABLE to stay do not book.

PROS: A big compliment to the staff. They really go the extra mile! You can communicate via WhatsApp, and if you have a problem, they help quickly. Good room service! Overall, the hotel complex was cozy. Nothing extraordinary, but quite alright! The hotel produces many things in-house and is environmentally conscious (soaps, etc.). The view from the pool is very nice and peaceful! However, you can't swim in the sea, or at least not very easily!! CONS: The complex needs renovation! The rooms smell musty. The air conditioning is really loud! The location is difficult. If you want to see anything here without a scooter, you should probably choose a different hotel. And as already mentioned, you can't swim in the sea. Breakfast was okay (except for the delicious freshly squeezed drinks, which were great) - but I wouldn't book it again. You can find much better options elsewhere! I hope they also take care of the stray dogs 🙏 not just the hotel's own.

These 2 stars are for the owner, not for the staff. The staff were amazing and did everything they could to make our stay better. We stayed here for one week, and unfortunately the hotel has a serious lack of maintenance. I had already seen reviews mentioning the same issues, and after staying here myself, it seems that nothing has been done. There is peeling paint and signs of neglect in many areas. These are not major repairs, just basic maintenance that should have been taken care of. It’s a shame because the location is great and the hotel has a lot of potential. The biggest problem, however, is the mold smell in the rooms. The smell of humidity and mold is very strong. It was not only in the room itself, but also in the pillows and mattress. Sleeping in those conditions was very unpleasant. We asked to change rooms, and the staff were very helpful. They showed us several other rooms, but most of them had the same mold smell. In the end, we had to accept a lower-category room because it was the only one without the smell. At least it had a sea view and was not facing directly into other guests. What is really disappointing is the price. This is not a cheap hotel, and it is simply not acceptable to pay this much money and have to deal with mold smells, humidity, and poor maintenance. No guest should have to spend time looking for a room that doesn’t smell of mold. Again, the staff were excellent and deserve praise. The owner, however, needs to invest in proper maintenance and fix the mold problem as soon as possible.

Positive: The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was large and the location was generally fine. Negative: The hotel and grounds are a bit dated, which isn't usually a problem for me. However, the biggest issue was the strong musty and damp smell in the room. The air was very unpleasant, and the smell even permeated the pillows and bed. This made a restful sleep virtually impossible. In addition, the electricity and water were shut off for about an hour during our stay. Although this was announced beforehand via email, we were left practically in the dark from 10 pm to 11 pm without any alternative being offered. What was particularly disappointing was that we were only offered a different room after we complained. This suggests that the problem was already known. As a guest, you don't want to have to change rooms after just one night on vacation. A room in decent condition should be provided from the start. Ultimately, we decided to leave the hotel early and book another one. This resulted in additional costs and a loss of valuable vacation time. Due to the poor air quality in the room, we would not book this hotel again.

Excellent service, lovely room, beautiful and clean pool. The beach isn't really usable, though. The staff are friendly and the grounds are well-maintained. The restaurant is very good, but twice the price of everywhere else!
