Orion Bar

Update May 2026: Still my happy place 😁 Once again I've spent 5 happy nights in Orion Bar. Everything I wrote before is still valid but I want to make a few more mentions and comments. A special "thank you" goes to the owner, Mai, his family, the waiters Bi and Eat and other staff 🙏. You're all wonderful people who've made my time in Chiang Mai so happy and memorable. The bar remains unchanged. It's simple but looked after just as much as staff and owner look after their customers. The music was also good, in fact much better than last year. It's a fun place if you just go with it and allow yourself to have fun. I also did a very enjoyable tour to Doi Inthanon with the owner. It was good value, everything was well organised, we had delicious lunch in a beautiful setting and you can be sure of good company. What's more, you don't need to leave too early in the morning 😁. I will definitely be back in Orion Bar on my next trip to Chiang Mai. October 2025: To me, Orion Bar is a great little place. It's welcoming to everyone, you just have to be open to it and find your place. The drinks are reasonably priced, there's a fun atmosphere, the owner is friendly and helpful and the regular waiters Bi and Jord are totally adorable, each in their own way. Of course, like any bar it may not be to everyone's taste but thanks to the lovely staff it's been my happy place for the past 2 nights and will remain so for the next few nights. 🙏❤️

Bar is very close with night bazaar

This gay bar, located next to the Chiang Mai night market, has a relaxed and casual atmosphere. While slightly run-down, it exudes local charm. Owner Mae and staff Bi and Jord are warm and welcoming, making guests feel right at home. Free billiards and board games add to the interactive fun. Drinks are reasonably priced, with the non-alcoholic punch being a highlight. However, the service quality is somewhat inconsistent; at times, staff seem more focused on the billiards than the customers, and there are occasional instances of pushy sales tactics. It's suitable for travelers who want to experience local LGBT culture and observe the street scene, but be prepared for the environment and the appropriate level of interaction. Overall, it's a good choice for experiencing a unique side of Chiang Mai's nightlife.

"Best atmosphere in Chiang Mai!" Orion Bar is an absolute must for anyone visiting Chiang Mai. Everything about it is just right: Atmosphere: The atmosphere is always fantastic – no matter what day of the week you go. Music: The music selection is great and instantly puts you in a good mood. Team: The staff are incredibly friendly, attentive, and always ready with a smile. Owners: You can tell the owners have poured their hearts into this place. They're often there themselves, mingling with the guests and personally ensuring everyone feels welcome and has a great time. Conclusion: If you're looking for a bar with character, good music, and a friendly, family atmosphere, this is the place for you. Highly recommended!

Friendly welcome. But no atmosphere. We were bored both times we went. The music volume was too low.
