Cuba Bar & Hostel

Guaranteed great service, quality drinks, late closing time

This is a hostel located on the upper floor of the Cuba Bar. I arrived at night, but I had to check in at the bar. It was so crowded and busy that checking in took about 30 minutes. I was so tired that I wished they would let me check in first, but they kept pouring drinks and doing that first. I just stood there awkwardly until another staff member came and checked me in. Since it's a place where people play loud music and dance, it was quite noisy while trying to sleep. I guess that's why the price is so cheap. I do sleep well despite the noise, so I fell asleep quickly. I probably won't go back there again.

The rooms are okay. I slept in a dorm room and the bed was fine. The bar was the problem. It was already extremely loud when we went to bed at 23:00, but it got even louder later. I woke up at 3:15 to even louder music. I could hear every word of the lyrics, even through noise-canceling earphones while playing a meditation track at half volume. So I was unable to fall back asleep and went down to the bar to ask them to turn the music down. Everyone there, including the 2–3 guests and the two bartenders, seemed extremely drunk. They turned the music down, but as soon as I left, they turned it back up again. This was extremely unprofessional and, as far as I know, also against Czech regulations. So I did the most German thing I could think of and called the police. They came and shut it down at 4 in the morning, but of course after about five minutes the music was turned back on. To be fair, it wasn’t as loud as before, but I could still understand the lyrics even with my earphones in. So if you actually want to get some sleep during your stay in Budweis, do not choose this hostel.
