The Rheinelbe landscape park in Gelsenkirchen's Ueckendorf district - reclaimed former colliery land now planted with woodland and dotted with land-art - doubles as one of the city's established gay-male cruising spots, noted across German cruising guides. The scene is outdoors and seasonal, busiest on warm evenings near the wooded paths and the small lake. Germany's legal climate is tolerant; as always with outdoor cruising, be discreet, respect other visitors to what is also a popular public nature park, and take normal personal-safety precautions after dark.
