DON GULL

Our last meal in Lagos and we were baffled. This restaurant was on so many recommended lists but the worst meal we had all week. The service was so slow and there was a poor atmosphere. The duck was nice but steak was poor quality. Disapointing all round. Considering the location, the prices for the quality of food was not good.

Excellent cuisine. We ate there twice during our holiday.

Back for the 2nd year at Don Gull after stumbling across the place last year. Even better this year. Great atmosphere. Food fantastic. Service top notch. We shared the padron peppers and marinated olives. Mainly to leave room for the Portuguese steak and Francescina. The best we have eaten of these Portuguese classics. Finished off with Espresso Martinis. For the beer lovers I also had a couple of Portuguese IPAs which were excellent. Will be back again next year. I am of an age where I dont photograph food. Just go and try it.

Such a disappointing evening. Having seen it was 4.8* on google and seeing the menu we thought this was going to be a delicious dinner, but we were let down. The starters were average, we had the smoked chicken cigars which were quite nice but didn’t blow our heads off and the burrata torteloni which again was alright. We both had the Portuguese steak which felt like a pool of oil with ready salted crisps/chips scattered around the side. We did say our feedback when asked at the end but no apology was made and no offer to make it up. When we first arrived, we tried to order by 2 different people and were told someone else would come to us, which took a lot of time. Don’t waste your time or money going. We spent over €120 for a very disappointing and average dinner. The only thing that was nice was the setting inside which is very deceiving of the terrible food.

We ordered a glass of white wine and a beer. We shared the tortolini appetizer, which was really good and creamy. We also had a Francesinha and the Sea Rice dish. Everything was delicious, and the waiter was very friendly. We didn't have a reservation because I didn't have any contact information to call, but we were lucky to get a table. I would still recommend making a reservation if you have the chance.

This was by far our best meal in Lagos! It wasn’t just the food that was incredible, the staff were so helpful and had really great suggestions for the food. I couldn’t recommend this place more.
