We are local to Shaldon and we do like this restaurant, it’s cozy and the menu is pretty good. In the restaurant the service is good, but the service behind the bar not so, always grumpy! Their chips are the best in Shaldon! BUT, considering it’s a local village pub, you would expect more choice of draft beers but it’s extremely sparse. Where are the local beers and IPAs? Every other pub in the area offers these. Also, we ordered a bottle of Savignon Blanc to have with our meal, it arrived in a wine cooler but the wine was warm! We pointed it out to the waitress and we were told that there weren’t any chilled bottles left and this was the only one they had. Obviously, we refused it, so a lost sale for them. Never been in a pub and been given a bottle of warm white wine before, and especially in this weather?! So all in all, great chefs, food, and restaurant staff but the bar area needs to get with the programme - offer some local beers, chill their white wine and try and put a smile on their bar staffs face!
Visited for Sunday lunch and it was great. The waiter was friendly, attentive and great chat. Food for 4 (two roast chicken, roast beef and, a fish and chips) was served promptly and food was hot (you cannot say that about a lot of places). Including drinks and some sides we were under £100. Will return.
We had a two course meal they were really tasty, didn't have to wait too long even though they were busy, nice atmosphere and the staff were friendly and efficient, I would definitely recommend and we will be eating there again
As usual we had a wonderful meal here two days ago. The service is always good and the menu choices are great. It was hard to narrow it down to one so will have to go back soon. Special mention to the staff who are always super friendly even when we have our naughty dog with us.
We had a fabulous Sunday Lunch. 1 beef and 1 lamb...both were amazing. Great veg, meat was succulent, roasties spot on and Yorkshire pudding amazing. Served with an additional gravy boat each. Service was fantastic. Staff were really cheerful, great attitude and were very attentive, in a good way.
Walked from Kingsteignton along the river, called off at the coombe cellars where the welcome and drinks were excellent. Next stop the London inn, we had to wait whilst the “locals” were served first, when we were served the drinks were good. Some people were enjoying roast potatoes and gravy on the table next to us, when I asked at the bar if we could order this, I was told they were for ‘locals’ only, despite the fact that I have eaten and drunk here regularly in closed season, I found this rude! I will take my custom elsewhere in future!
What a brilliant evening. The food was superb. I had the Roast loin of lamb and slow roasted with garlic. The sauce was fantastic. Absolutely brilliant. My husband had the tomahawk pork. He said it was fabulous. Great service and lovely ambiance. We were staying in Shaldon next to the pub and would encourage everyone to try out this pub. The food is amazing. Great value. We’ll be returning to Shaldon and will definitely be returning to The London Inn. Thank you to all staff especially the chefs!!
We visited the London Inn today for lunch, a Monday in February, with foul weather outside. Service couldn’t have been better - the bar man was attentive and helpful. The food was absolutely delicious. The best calamari I have ever had. Locals were friendly and chatty. I would recommend this place in a heartbeat.
Nice and cozy and really warm. Lovely service. The food is good, the vegetarian choice interesting. Their chunky chips are the best around! The only thing I’d say is the IKEA type light wooden furniture in the main restaurant doesn’t really go with the feel of the quaint pub restaurant, such a shame as it looks a little cheap.
We had dinner here on Christmas Eve and the food was exceptional! Great service and friendly staff. Merry Christmas! 🎄
