So bad

Upon arrival it seemed a little run down but ok, you could tell something was being worked on by the amount of decorators/plumbing equipment outside the room next door and the sound of drilling, banging that was going on at 6.30pm on a friday. However within 2 hours that changed. I was going to a music gig nearby and as i left a woman in the reception area stopped at the bottom of the stairs and made a comment about how i was dressed and my breasts, which made me uncomfortable. Then as i was checking my directions she came back towards me and continued to make comments and then asked me to come to her room (to help with her bags she was carrying) which made me even more uncomfortable. The receptionist came out and asked if i was ok and that was when the woman left not repeating her request for assistance. This whole interaction made me feel very unsafe and that the hotel was not suitable for solo female travelers. That night upon my return i turned on the room lights to discover one of the three switches did nothing, one turned on the bathroom and the 3rd was for the above door light Which not only did not come on 3 of of 5 times. but the forth time it did come on and start flashing indicating a possible electrical fault and running the risk of an epeleptic seizure. The following morning things went down hill. Upon going to make a coffee i found the wall socket by the kettle was loose coming away from the wall. This meant that i did not make a coffee as i honestly did not trust the socket with an electrical appliance containing water not to have a risk of electrocuting me. I went for a show and then discovered that 1) the bath had no plug 2) the shower hose had someones (black) hair (mine is red) in clumps cought in it. 3) the cold water had almost no pressure meaning that to get anything coming out of the shower head you had to use mostly the scalding hot water. The cold water pressure issue was the same from shower or the taps. 4) when putting on the shower the water spurted out in multiple dirrections from the tap join. meaning that the nearly scalding water was coming directly at my shins. 5) the whole tap area was moving back and forth as you turned it on and off. i checked out as soon as i could and told reception these issues and as an appology she did make me a coffee. She offered to give me compensation for another nights stay there another time which honestly i would have considered if the issues had not been about the health and safety and hygiene issues of staying there. She said she was going to look herself at the issues and i offered to show them to her which she declined. Within an hour of checking out i also discovered that during my stay i had had visitors to my bed. In the form of something that bit me in my sleep. These were not there when i went to sleep. in short Haylands Hotel is as in my experience poor hygine, is infested, with heath and safety risks putting yourself at literal harm if you stay there.

Don’t be fooled, gone off food smell for the whole stay, the carpets are torn, there was hair all over the bathroom floor, the shower and taps were disgraceful, bed frame looked like it was from the tip. DO NOT STAY HERE

Not the smartest of places but did the job, parking is useful and the lady on the reception was extremely accommodating and sweet, let me park my car and check out later 😀 probably would return on that basis and the fact they allow pets although I didnt have my dog with me this time.

I am genuinely at a loss as to where to begin with this experience. I booked this property while travelling from Snowdonia to Coventry, and due to limited availability en route, options were scarce. I paid £74 for what was advertised as a “luxury three-person room.” My booking clearly stated that I would be travelling with dogs, and the listing indicated that pets were included. Upon arrival, I checked in and informed the receptionist that I had two dogs with me. I was then told there would be an additional charge of £10 per dog. Although this contradicted the booking details, I reluctantly paid the extra fee. However, the situation escalated further when I went to bring the dogs inside. Another guest physically blocked the entrance, shouting that the dogs were not allowed in. This was an entirely unacceptable confrontation, especially given that I had already paid the required fees. The receptionist eventually intervened—laughing, rather than addressing the situation with professionalism—and asked the guest to move. This lack of control and seriousness set the tone for the rest of the stay. Upon entering the room, it was immediately apparent that it fell far below any reasonable standard, let alone anything described as “luxury.” The bathroom was in a deplorable condition: the shower head was leaking, leaving the entire area wet; there was visible mould across the ceiling; and the toilet seat was broken. The shower itself was unusable, with inconsistent pressure and water temperature fluctuating between extremes of too hot and too cold. The main room was equally unacceptable. There were stains covering the walls, peeling paint throughout, and used toothpicks left on the dresser. Every table surface was marked with burns, and the light fixtures were covered in dust. Cleanliness and maintenance appear to be entirely neglected. In addition, the overall environment of the hotel was deeply unpleasant. There was a constant flow of people arriving late into the night via taxis, and the corridors smelled strongly of cigarettes and cannabis. Doors were repeatedly slammed well into the early hours—up until approximately 3am—creating significant noise disturbance. This not only made it impossible to rest but also agitated the dogs. I chose to remain only because we were exhausted after a long journey and had no viable alternative at that hour. However, the entire experience left me thoroughly disgusted and deeply disappointed. I would not recommend this establishment to anyone under any circumstances, unless they have absolutely no other option.
