David A. Balfour Park

David A. Balfour Park and the adjoining Vale of Avoca ravine, running north from the St. Clair subway station near Yonge Street, is one of Toronto's oldest and best-documented outdoor gay cruising areas, with a history stretching back to the 1970s. The wooded trails along the ravine's edges see quiet, discreet activity mostly after dark and on warm evenings from late spring through early autumn. It is a public city park, so ordinary park rules apply and there is no legal issue with being there; same-sex activity is fully legal in Canada. Users should stay on established paths, be mindful of joggers, dog-walkers and families who also use the park by day, respect others' privacy and consent, and avoid the ravine alone late at night for personal safety.
