The bathtub was dirty, the room was unclean (see picture), the entire first floor smells like mildew, and the breakfast was underwhelming to say the least. The staff are extremely friendly, but that would not make me come back.
Not the nicest place in town but its not bad at all and the people who work here are nice everytime I pass through. *update as of 6/7/26. When i try and check in and I have to stand around in the lobby ringing bells and calling phones to try and check in, someone aint doin there job....... 20 minutes to check in when the hotel is empty is crazy... and then stick you on the second floor... i won't be back. Ill stay up at the next exit at the super 8. At least they want your business
The whole Hotel was filthy. I was checked into a room that had no smoke detector, which violates so many codes.
I am stunned that there is a hotel in Ames Iowa with your Quality Inn on it. I reserved 2 rooms for 2 nights through Hotel.com then booked another room for 2 nights by calling direct with my son calling for his room as well. In total my party consisted of four rooms for two nights May 22 - 24, 2026. We stayed at the Quality Inn & Suites in Ames, Iowa while attending a family wedding, and unfortunately our experience was extremely disappointing. Several members of our family stayed across the street at the Holiday Inn, and the difference between the two hotels was shocking. From the moment we walked in, the property appeared poorly maintained. The lobby was dirty, the windows were filthy, and the elevator looked like it had not been properly cleaned in quite some time. The condition of our room was even more concerning. The carpet felt dirty and worn, the walls and general maintenance were in poor shape, and the cloth recliner chairs in the rooms were visibly dirty and not something we felt comfortable sitting in. The bathroom was especially unacceptable. It did look and feel clean, the tub was stained with dirt Anna mold, and the water pressure was very poor. Overall, the room felt extremely neglected rather than simply “dated.” I understand that not every hotel is luxury, but basic cleanliness and maintenance should not be optional. This property needs serious attention from management. I would not recommend staying here unless major improvements are made. And after one night when we noticed there were no smoke detectors in the room. I believe there is a law to assure or safety. The hot breakfast turned out to be make your own waffles and that was the best thing because they used canned sausage gravy and pre-made biscuits. We did enjoy Stacey, the front desk person that greeted us warmly at check in. I wasn't able financially to leave, to walk away from the property and go across the street to the pristine Holiday Inn since 2 rooms were a no refund reservation AND it was a comparable price! Please forward my plea to shut the doors on this horrible, filthy place. You should be embarrassed. Quality Inn & Suites Ames Conference Center Near ISU Campus 2601 East 13th St, Ames, IA 50010 US
A great place to hold an event. Huge ballroom. Nice lobby. Staff is helpful but unobtrusive. Parking is an issue sometimes.
We spent one night here and I don't know if I have ever stayed in a more disgusting room. Immediately upon entry, there was suspicious white powder on the safe, which staff later explained was from ceiling tiles. The room was so dirty and the tub was leaking so bad that they offered us an another room. Well, the other room wasn't any better and the tub was actually leaking worse so we declined the move. I had to put a towel in the tub so help mask the sound of the constant water leak. The ceiling tiles appeared to have mold, the tub had stains, the carpet was gross. There didn't seem to be any way to control the climate in the hotel room itself. The lighting was dismal. The only saving grace was the staff were apologetic and kind and the beds were surprisingly comfortable. Since there was an event, we paid over $600 for this room and I can't even imagine it being worth $60. I hope they take the excess money they charged us to invest in the hotel because wow does it need upgrades and basic housekeeping. Breakfast was very basic and meh.
