About Doors Open Buffalo: Doors Open Buffalo, Explore Buffalo’s signature annual event, is a day of free public access to architecturally and historically significant locations. The goal of Doors Open Buffalo is to excite visitors about Buffalo’s unique architectural heritage. Doors Open Buffalo is a unique opportunity to visit building interiors that are often not open to the public and is a choose-your-own-adventure event: visitors can visit as many locations and in whatever order they wish. Typically held on a Saturday in September, Doors Open Buffalo attracts thousands of visitors each year.
The Doors Open Buffalo event invites people to attend a series of self-guided tours at a number of coveted architectural masterpieces and noteworthy sites. The “choose-your-own-adventure format” means that people can pick and choose their adventures, all set to their own pace.
In 2026, there are over 30 historic buildings to choose from. These structures include local landmarks, cultural centers, and hidden architectural gems. A number of the site visits include brief docent-led talks or volunteer-led tours.
This is a fantastic opportunity to get to know Buffalo’s iconic landmarks, inside and out.
