Big Chicks is a queer neighborhood bar on Sheridan Road in Uptown that’s been open since 1986. Its walls are a patchwork of posters, paintings and flyers that owner Michelle Fire has been hoarding for decades. The result feels less like décor and more like a visual diary of the city’s LGBTQ+ pulse. Inside, you’ll find gay men, lesbians, trans folks and straight regulars sharing tables without a second thought. Next door, the brunch spot Tweet is run by the same crew, so the transition from morning eggs to late‑night drinks is seamless. The bar flips on at 4 p.m. on weekdays and 2 p.m. on weekends, then stays open until 3 a.m. on Saturdays. Weeknights are low‑key, a place to sip a cheap beer and watch the street. Come Saturday night and the dance floor fills, the music gets louder, and the crowd swells. It sits just north of Boystown and Andersonville, a short stroll from the Argyle Red Line stop, making it easy to pop in after work or after a night on the town.

I wish this place had better breakfast burritos, especially for the price. I ordered one with steak this morning and it was very disappointing - all I tasted was flour tortilla. The staff was nice though.

Excellent food, as always, and great service. When busy the dining areas can get noisy since they’re a bit cozy / close to walls and such, but the experience is always great! 10/10 recommend this place to everyone who visits me from out of town and for friends who want to have a great brunch!

Hands down the funnest spot in Uptown. The staff here are all incredibly friendly and welcoming, and the drinks are phenomenal at a very reasonable price. I love coming here, it always feels like a warm hug.
