Sven's Basecamp Hostel

Exactly what was expected plus a bit. Super friendly check in. The showers were hot and clean. The location was great, easy to find. If you don't mind walking to the bathroom and roughing it a little,this place is perfect.

So FREAKING cute! The whole place is so beautiful. If I ever come through Fairbanks again, I'll be staying here again.

Great value for money good for bachelors. Friendly staff. We were just unlucky heater gas valve was shut off so we couldn't use it over night. Only one suggestion people like me who come late night when there is no electricity in the hostel on a heavy rainy day , Please have clear bathroom marking like you provided path for our rooms. It helps preventing searching for it under heavy rain or snow. This is just a feedback not complaint 🙂

I received a friendly welcome from Alex. The kitchen is okay. The cooking utensils are pretty worn. The fridge is full of leftovers that no one wants to eat anymore. :( Of the two showers, only one works properly. It's very noisy because of the airport and the nearby road, even at night. Being from Switzerland is a plus. This is probably due to the arrogance of the owner. Even though he's been in Alaska for a long time, he still hasn't developed the helpful American mentality.

We really liked Sven's for the location, amenities, and value. What a lovely setting.

We stayed 2 nights and it was great place to unwind and talk with people from all over the world. Thanks Sven and all the other staff.

Rode from TX > MN > AK and didn't have a place planned out to stay. Called around, no vacancies and if they did have vacancies, they were $300+... Never been to a hostel but called and got lodging secured. Came in Zurissa gave me a tour, showed me my lodging, & is really cool ppl. There was also a magician that put on a free show last night. The staff really take care of the grounds & the bathroom, the showers, kitchen, and lodging (I stayed in "Bear" 1 King, bunk bed, & couch) were all great. Even had a hot bath! All in all, Sven's Basecamp Hostel has provided me a great experience to now incorporate hostels in my future travels.

Great and affordable place to stay! I slept in a shared room one night and set up my tent on property for a few days afterwards. Lots of dogs around and I met some really nice people, I’d definitely recommend staying here!

Sven's Hostel is a super cool place the layout and structures themselves make the place unlike anything most people will ever get to experience. The staff are top tier and Sven himself is a solid dude so much so that I can even forgive him for being European. Overall, stay here and it'll be an experience you won't forget.
