Overall a really nice stay at the Wailea. Our room got upgraded to a fantastic ocean view room in the Chapel wing. The pools were fantastic and so much fun with all the water slides. We would always arrive mid to late morning. We had trouble finding chairs to start and would always just have to grab a random one in the sun but usually within a few hours of arrival spots would open up and we could move into the shade with more space for our family. The beach beyond was beautiful although the waters a bit rough for our kiddo to swim. The breakfast buffet was not as good as I had hoped. All the baked items (pancakes, waffles, pastries, etc.) were super underwhelming and didn't feel fresh. We were so underwhelmed that we cancelled our dinner reservations and ate offsite instead. One thing really bothered me that I'm having trouble letting go of it. I ordered two drinks at the pool bar. When I went back to order a third the bartender told me he lost my first receipt and asked me to sign a new receipt for a charge of 3 drinks. I did however when I asked to confirm that the first charge would not appear on my bill I wasn't totally confident in his answer. So I texted the front desk to ensure I wasn't being double charged. It took them 28 hours from my first test to get back to me with an answer. This caused me extra anxiety and worry during one of my vacation days that felt so unnecessary and really stained the service of the hotel. All over a $75 drink order.... I don't understand why they couldn't get an answer to me sooner and never really got an explanation. The last thing is they have no place to shower off after check out for those who fly out later. We had a red eye and stayed at the hotel way beyond checkout time. I had to fly home covered in sand and chlorine. My husband used soap in the beach showers to get as clean as possible. Other hotels on our stay had locker rooms and showers for this purpose and it feels a hotel of this caliber should have to.

I’ll start with the good: Kela at front desk is very kind, empathetic, and solution oriented. She was wonderful and helpful. Roberto Johnson is unprofessional and should by no means be a manager. The front desk needs serious training in customer service. Been coming to this hotel for years and property is beautiful but man, for being a Waldorf the service sucks, to say the least. Booked with Amex and have Hilton honors. No upgrade. No early check in. I understand being booked but online there are upgraded rooms available. I even asked for a paid upgrade and no luck there. I even asked for a lesser room and nothing available at 130p. Don’t even need late checkout. Disappointed. Crummy start to vacation. Told manager I’m pregnant and need things refrigerated. He was dismissive and just didn’t handle the situation well. Anyway, enjoy the property and try to overlook the lack of customer service training.

Overall the property is nice and well located. Unfortunately the onsite pricing is crazy, who doesn’t want a $38 personal pan pizza? Additionally I had significant issues with the front desk management getting things right and responding timely. The staff overall were great, just the front desk management is the issue. For the same price try the four seasons next door.

3/5 Stars My partner and I stayed at Grand Wailea to celebrate our birthdays on June 18 and June 19, and unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. We informed the hotel in advance of our special occasion, but there was no acknowledgment or birthday amenity waiting in our room upon arrival. We were referred to the restaurants, and when a server learned it was our birthdays, the only recognition we received was a verbal congratulations. We even paused for our desserts. While we did not expect anything extravagant, many hotels and restaurants typically offer a small gesture such as a dessert, cake, or card for special occasions. We spent approximately $1,500 dining at the resort during our celebration, yet there was still no additional acknowledgment. For a luxury resort known for its hospitality, we expected a more personalized experience. Overall, the property is beautiful, but the lack of attention to our special occasion left us disappointed. Surely the hotel is going to respond to this and only say a long written sorry.
