The Monterey Hotel

I am incredibly frustrated with my recent stay. Before booking, I called their official reservation line to clarify the room types. They explicitly told me that an "Ocean View" room was on a higher floor with an unobstructed, direct view of the ocean, whereas "Ocean Front" meant a lower-floor room with direct walking access to the beach. They even noted that "Partial Ocean View" was its own separate category. When I arrived to check in, the front desk completely contradicted this, stating that "Ocean View" actually meant a partial view, and only "Ocean Front" had direct views. When I explained what their reservation line told me, the staff dismissed it, saying their own booking team doesn't have the right information. They actually handed me an executive's business card and told me to call that specific person next time for the "correct" details. It is ridiculous to expect everyday travelers to have a specific executive's contact info just to get accurate details. People call the official listed number. If InterContinental can't align their own agents with reality, they are actively misleading guests. Avoid this place if you expect transparency.

Craig was nothing short of amazing! From the moment he greeted us to the time he handed us our key cards, he was incredibly personable, gracious, and welcoming. Because of a last-minute change in plans, my wife and I had to book a room with two queen beds. Craig immediately noticed this, took the initiative, and offered us a king bed instead. He has a natural talent for hospitality and an incredible eye for detail. While it might seem like a small gesture, that level of thoughtful, proactive service is exactly what makes Greg so outstanding at what he does. He is an absolute asset to the team!

I booked a one-night standard twin room (two beds) for June 6th on the ZenHotels website and paid $284. When we arrived around 8 PM, the front desk told me that my booking showed a king bed room. I showed them the confirmation email I received, but they said they could only go by the information they received on their end. I asked them to help resolve this, but they said we could cancel the current booking and make a new one. ZenHotels also told me that if I want to cancel, I must book another room at the same hotel — if I just cancel without rebooking, there will be no refund. What kind of unfair terms is this? Rebooking another room costs $308.86. Why? This isn’t our fault at all. We argued with them for over an hour. Finally, because it was already 10 PM and too late, we had no choice but to compromise and pay the extra amount. Do not come to this hotel. Parking is inconvenient, there is no breakfast, and the Wi-Fi keeps disconnecting. I really want to give it 0 stars. It‘s very bad experience.

It was alright. It's an old hotel building on Cannery Row. It's been kept up & you do have spectacular views of Monterey Bay from the rooms with balconies. Like most areas in California there is a homeless population & there was a homeless person residing a short distance from our balcony. I don't know what services are provided locally for unhoused individuals. But, was sad to see. We had not been to this area in several years. You can see the impact of over tourism...the horrific congestion & traffic. But it is still beautiful place. Additionally, overall, the hotel staff was outstanding. The bed, however, was hard as a rock, according to a very reliable source, my significant other.

Beautiful location, incredible views of California's majestic coastline, clean clear weather mixed with cool coastal breeze & bright sunshine. Hotel staff was very friendly & accommodating, rooms were very nice, luxurious & clean, with amazing views off the balcony overlooking the bay, romantic working fireplace for cozy evenings in, lots of restaurants, bars, shops, & things to do, all walking distance from the hotel. Stay a few days for the sun, surf, & scenery!

The attentiveness and genuine care for the guests was seen everywhere on property. My family and I will be back!

Very accommodating with great service. within walking distance of everything on canary row.

Rooms are tiny, no AC, no heat, no mini fridge, but the location is perfect.

The positive thing is the location direct on the waterfront and close to town center/restaurants. The hotelroom itself maybe would have been worth the price 30 years ago. It is now old and worn down, smells musty, the bathrobes are washed out and full of stains, and the whole building definitely needs an overhaul...or much lower prices. For breakfast better go somewhere else. I don't know how the items were selected, but I don't understand why someone offers an egg, cooked to death and wrapped into plastic, without offering any bread.

The InterContinental on Cannery Row is so worth the money! The location is absolutely perfect, right at the heart of Cannery Row shops and restaurants. Parking was a breeze with valet and self-park options. The staff is so helpful and welcoming. The perfect place to listen to the ocean from your window!
