Del Rey at Villa Royale

My new favorite restaurant. The Bombas! The steak! The churros! Heavenly. And the best sangria I ever had. I got the red but one of the bartenders Cruz offered samples of the white which was really nice. Cruz is the best! Kai was our server - super informative as well! The hostess Alondra was really accommodating too when we were indecisive on whether to sit on the patio or indoors -- both options are beautiful. I don't know how they knew it was my girlfriend's birthday, I swear and I told them I didn't remember mentioning it, but Kai brought out a candle with dessert and it was all really lovely. Thank you to the whole staff, I really mean it when I say it's my new favorite restaurant -- worth the drive from LA easy, and just across the street from Ace hotel. We were blown away by the food, service, and ambiance. This was definitely one of our all time best tapas experiences and better than what we had in Spain. We shared 3 dishes and they were all perfection! The bombas, meatballs (best I ever tasted), and the salad with arugula, cheese, and ham (oh my). We also loved the house special martini which came with a blue cheese olive covered with chorizo (incredible) and the red sangria. Our server, Enrique, was extremely kind, competent, and pampering. We felt so welcome right off the back! Thanks so much for an unforgettable evening that we will always cherish!!!

Had dinner with my husband here and loved it. The service was attentive but not annoying. Food was delicious. We had three dishes and dessert to share and were full. Cocktails were perfect.

There are two meals in my (now 27) years of life that have made me feel this way. I came in on a whim with my boyfriend after finding this place on google maps. We were staying in a nearby town for a few days, searching for a last minute birthday dinner spot that seemed like a serious restaurant and not just pricey for the sake of being pricey. Decor and vibe seemed promising from the pictures and I’m a sucker for tapas, but our expectations were tempered going in. The ambience, cuisine, and service that greeted us at Del Rey blew my expectations out of the water completely. Tucked away inside a beautiful and very quintessentially palm springs hotel, Del Rey’s dining room provides stunning decor and vibes galore. However, I found the dim lit patio was too cozy to resist on a nice warm desert evening). Kai (hope i’m spelling it correctly) was our server, and despite our short-notice arrival well after the peak of dinner service, his hospitality was superb. We never felt rushed, and our many questions were answered thoroughly and patiently. We rushed out of the gate with a massive order of different tapas, and he was considerate enough to help us dial it back to a more appropriate amount of food given the portions. If i had one note at all, it was that the mushroom dish is missing something texturally, but it was nevertheless delicious and had we not had so many other dishes on our table i’m certain we would have finished it quickly. Besides that, everything that touched our table was utterly spectacular. The house gin martini was perhaps the best martini i have ever had (as a gin martini drinker), and my boyfriend who hates gin AND martinis was shocked at how much he enjoyed it. The sangria was another standout drink. I could go on and on, but in short: if you find yourself in this corner of the desert you would be a fool to not pay Del Rey a visit. p.s. the cheesecake desert makes for a perfect nightcap, and i’ve never cared much for cheesecake

What a hidden gem. The food is great to share. We have been here twice so far. Everything we have tried are all wonderful.

Not a CA resident, blue collar tourist not a critic. My wife and I had an incredible meal here. Incredible staff, never witnessed a sharper operation. We went big and ordered 5 dishes because we wanted it all but settled. Incredible meal, each dish was unique and somehow it was all cohesive which I imagine is really difficult. Very memorable, classy joint that has a real handle on what they are doing. Much respect. Some perspective on reviews regarding costs. California is a premium state and expensive. Palm Springs caters to a wealthy demographic within CA. You won't get a bargain in CA anywhere. This restaurants price is right on point for a well curated experience staffed with people doing a great job.

for all my alt queer black divas DO NOT go here. they will behave as if it’s a headache to accommodate you … we were sat late only to be told the kitchen would close in 15 mins the experience was rushed, overpriced & we were given big attitudes about double checking for a severe nut allergy i will not be coming back

Eduardo is a GREAT bartender. Personable and talented mixologist. Fun atmosphere.

Way too expensive for what it was. Come for a very expensive drink, don’t stay for the overpriced bland food. They did an excellent job keeping an eye on your water which I appreciate. The crispy Jamon on the bland patatas bravas was a disappointment (think: Jamon jerky). The grilled artichokes were good, but a difficult eating endeavor in this environment. The championes (mushrooms) felt like a wanna be vegan meat pulled pork somehow? Tasted very weird. And the chicken skewers were almost $40 for two skewers (assumed it would come with a rice or something) and were so bland, the lemon slice barely aided them. The veggies the chicken came with were shishito peppers with the stems on…such a mess.

The food was mediocre at best, the short rib empanadas were very obviously previously frozen. The short rib inside was dry and stringy. Jumbo shrimp were over cooked and rubberized. Service was sub-par we had to flag down our server if we wanted refills she didn't come to check on us once and we waited about 30 min after we finished eating before we got our check. No one cleared our plates and the silverware had spots. The place had def vibes tho.
