Arizona Gay Rodeo

Das Arizona Gay Rodeo ist ein dreitägiges, von der IGRA anerkanntes Rodeo, das von der Arizona Gay Rodeo Association (AGRA) auf dem Corona Ranch and Rodeo Grounds in Laveen im Süden von Phoenix veranstaltet wird. Es findet im Februar statt, nicht im März. In den Archiven des Smithsonian befindet sich ein Programmheft für das „First Annual Arizona Gay Rodeo“ vom Januar 1986, und die AGRA bewarb das Rodeo 2026 als ihr 40-jähriges Jubiläum.
Die Teilnehmer treten bei den Standardwettbewerben an: Bull Riding, Steer Riding, Chute Dogging, Calf Roping on Foot, Barrel Racing, Pole Bending und Team Roping. Hinzu kommen die typischen Wettbewerbe des Gay-Rodeo-Camps: Steer Decorating, Wild Drag Race und Goat Dressing. Zuschauer können an einem Community-Wettbewerb im Goat Dressing teilnehmen und am Samstag Mutton Bustin’ erleben. Partybusse fahren von Charlie’s ab, der Country-Bar in Phoenix, die am Donnerstag ein Mini-Rodeo ausrichtet.
Tickets kosten 25 US-Dollar pro Tag über agra-phx.com oder an der Tageskasse. Es gibt keine Wochenendkarten, Kinder bis einschließlich 12 Jahren erhalten freien Eintritt, und für die Parkplatznutzung berechnet die Venue 10 US-Dollar pro Auto. Die Tore öffnen um 8 Uhr morgens, das Rodeo beginnt um 10 Uhr morgens. Haustiere sind nicht erlaubt.
Das Rodeo 2026 fand vom 13. bis 15. Februar statt. Die AGRA hat das 41. Rodeo für den 12. bis 14. Februar 2027 angekündigt.
