Canopy by Hilton Portland Waterfront

Gorgeous hotel in downtown Portland. This was our first time staying here, and we have already decided to stay here again the next time we visit Portland. Perfect location, beautiful interior, modern and very clean rooms. Great staff, and a rooftop bar (I highly recommend their cocktails but would personally suggest skipping their brunch). We will be back!

My family of 4 stayed at the Canopy by Hilton Portland Waterfront Hotel at the end of July. We stopped in Portland to stay the night on our way up to Camden Maine. The front desk staff was amazing! They were able to get us a room earlier than expected. The room was clean and spacious! The hotel was within walking distance to shops and restaurants. We had a great time!

Excellent Hotel nice staff rooms a little small for the price. Even though I got a free room for all the nights I stayed in the past year or two and for joining the Hilton Honors AMEX card club.

For the price, I expect better. There's no desk in the room, just a table that isn't tall enough to use as a desk. No desk chair, just a wobbly plastic seat and a stool/ottoman that doesn't offer any back support.

I enjoyed it, law of diminishing returns remains undefeated, the more luxurious the less the value proposition.

3 visits over 6 months and I have 3 terrible experiences at this property: 1. First visit - assigned me to a room that they knew had complaints of noise from the HVAC. Couldn't sleep. The hotel was not even 10% occupied - this is from February! Offered to give me a better rate for my next stay as "courtesy" 2. Second visit - I asked them for a "courtesy" rate when I was taking my parents there in the summer. Their 2 queen bed rooms were all suddenly "Sold out". Offered me 2 adjoining rooms instead for $800+ a night - in Maine!! 3. Third visit - My flight gets delayed and I arrive after midnight. They cancel my stay. And give my room to someone else (after midnight). Tell me the hotel is full and I should find a place elsewhere. I think the Canopy staff learned their hospitality at their local McDonald's. Scratch that, even the McD folks do a better job than these clueless "managers".

The Hilton Canopy Waterfront was a mixed bag for the money. Check-in, valet service, and the rooms itself were great. The rooms even included HBO Max and Netflix. But the amenities were acking a bit considering the price of the room, especially the rooftop bar which was overpriced ($50 for a burger and fries with a coke), had long waits, and we overheard multiple parties complaining about the service at. Would we stay again? Not sure for the price. Again, just a little bit expensive for what you get.

This was an okay place. If you’re looking for somewhere family friendly this really isnt the place and I would recommend one of the other Hilton’s in town. It was very loud most of the nights. We stayed on the 4th floor knowing there was a rooftop bar on the 6th and it was still very loud. People coming in and out of rooms at 12am> we got this stay for free but I know this place isn’t cheap for nightly rates. If I were to choose again I would pick one of the other hiltons down the road. The staff were very nice and friendly for sure! We did appreciate that but everything else was kind of a let down tbh. We couldn’t even eat breakfast in the hotel because the line was almost out the door of non staying guests.

I stayed at the Canopy Aug. 7 & 8, 2026. It was clean, modern and uncluttered. My room was immaculate, and the service staff, especially at the front desk, couldn't have been more helpful. It's right on the waterfront in walking distance of the entire downtown and wharf area. The rooftop bar/restaurant is spectacular with the best view and great food and drink. I would give it 6 stars if I could.

10/10 recommend Canopy by Hilton Waterfront Portland. Situated directly in Portland's Old Port, the location is unbeatable. All the best restaurants, shopping, and the ferry are within a 7-minute walk. The hotel itself was clean and modern - it felt brand new! We booked a King Room for a week and were upgraded to a Premier King Room. WOW! It felt roomier than my NYC apartment. The staff made this place so special...we felt like we were staying at the four seasons. The lobby/reception staff were always engaged, kind, and seemed genuinely happy not only be there but to help the guests. Our first contact with the hotel staff was the valet team who were also so kind and accommodating throughout the entire trip. We really loved the staff - they left a great impression of the Hilton Brand and the Maine locals. We loved that the hotel is eco friendly and provides filtered water stations on each floor! Typically we spend at least $100/week on bottled water when traveling but this place really did a great job of solving that. Each room comes with refillable glass carafes, drinking glasses, and nespresso machines! The Salt Yard Restaurant on the ground floor was the icing on the cake. Delicious coffee starting at 7:00 AM daily and really great food. As someone who doesn't drink, I loved that they had a mocktail menu and afternoon offering of freshly baked goods instead of a traditional "happy hour." Experiences like the one we had are what cause people to rebook hotels for subsequent visits - we'll be back!! Thanks for an excellent stay.

This hotel was fabulous to stay at. I highly recommend it. The staff were incredibly nice and super helpful. I traveled solo to the room was completely perfect for me. I would like to add, I had a fabulous old fashioned there also while I was making up my portland travel plans when I got in. The bartender Mikey is a mastercraftsman. It was a maple old fashioned, and it really pulled through the flavors. Old fashions are something I live for. It was delicious. And then he offered me a lot of insight on great places to eat and where to get some awesome cocktails. He's a gem. Thank you, Hilton for the awesome stay.
