The Birdcage Boutique

I didn't come here to stay, I was here to eat, swim and play some pool. The food was really good, seatings are great, atmosphere is loud and not as peaceful as it seemed. The swimming pool was dirty and filthy, they could at least clean it more because it was just too dirty to swim in. The pool table can be a bit better, I understand it's a boutique not a pool club but the position of the pool table makes it nearly impossible to play. It's like adding it for no reason or adding it for aesthetics. Pretty much the only good things were the staff, food and seatings.

The rooms are good and the pool is not bad but they don't do you any favors even if you paid for them. I wanted to extend but they prefer to have new check-ins rather than give priority to people who are already staying overnight. Disappointing.

I booked a room at this hotel expecting a pleasant stay, but unfortunately, the room was nothing like the photos. The window is blocked by mosquito screens and there's no natural light. The room is also full of mosquitos. The bathroom is a wet room with the shower spraying directly onto the toilet - not what I was expecting! The room is also a far cry from the photographs on the website. The room has an intense glaring light which makes for an overbearing feel. The Expedia listing showed a shower enclosed in a glass unit, which was not the case. I've raised this with reception, but no resolution so far. Hoping for a speedy fix. Edit: after having read your response you claimed that nothing was conveyed to your staff which is simply not true. I spoke to one of the doubly functioning barmen/receptionists. I showed him the odd ‘window’, and also the bathroom which did not meet the photographic depictions on the respective website. The room had been left open extensively by staff without any attempt to rid the room of mosquitos. I also note that it is obvious that many of these reviews are false and have been created with the singular purpose of inflating their score both in Google and TripAdvisor.

We really enjoyed our stay here, it’s the perfect little safe haven in amongst the bustling city. After a day of exploring it was so nice to come back to the hotel and instantly feel relaxed with their lovely courtyard that’s full of plants and also a swimming pool to cool off in the heat. The room was modern and a really generous size and out of all of the places we looked at I would say this was by far the best value for money. The hotel is tucked down a sidestreet so noise from the city wasn’t a problem and we slept really well! Also the location is great to walk to the Palace and museum. The only thing I would say is that we stayed for 3 nights and our room wasn’t cleaned which wasn’t a problem but if we stayed any longer I would hope that we would have got a clean. Overall would definitely recommend and would also definitely visit again if I’m ever in Phnom Penh.

The rooms are like basements, with no windows or built right into the wall. They demand money for early check-in.

Absolutely not professional. I requested to cancel my room, and my request was refused. This had been confirmed by email that same morning. Fine, I accepted the refusal and still showed up. It turned out that by late afternoon, the room had been re-rented and my reservation was therefore cancelled! A complete lack of professionalism, as usual in Cambodia. The staff behaved nonchalantly; apparently, it’s normal for them to inform guests at the very last minute !

A truly wonderful little hotel with a warm, family atmosphere. The owners and staff are very friendly. It's very well and centrally located, yet quiet and ideal for relaxation. I can absolutely recommend this hotel and would book it again myself.

Unfortunately for us, we ended up with the ground-floor room, opposite reception. It's poorly soundproofed and smells damp. We couldn't open the window, which was sealed shut as it overlooked the pool terrace… The bed was comfortable, though. We were disappointed by the reception we received: the staff were cold and unhelpful.
