Mid-afternoon in Saigon, and the rain arrives on schedule: a wall of water on the tin awnings, motorbike riders pulling on plastic ponchos at the lights, a café owner dragging plastic stools under cover. Down a hẻm, one of the narrow alleys that run off every main road, a plain door with a row of parked scooters outside leads to a steam room, a dry sauna and a maze of dark corridors. That is where cruising happens in this city. Ho Chi Minh City has no cruise bars, sex clubs or porn cinemas that we could verify in 2026, but it has a handful of cheap, local men's saunas with dark rooms, plenty of men's massage spas that are a different thing altogether, and a very busy app scene. The rules around sex work and drugs are strict, and police do raid venues, so read the safety sections before you go.

Legal in one line: sex between men has never been a crime in Vietnam and the age of consent is 16 for everyone. Same-sex weddings have not been banned since 2015, but they have no legal recognition. Buying or selling sex is illegal, sexual or obscene acts in public are fined, and Vietnam's drug laws are very strict.

How cruising works in Saigon

The city's gay life is relaxed but discreet. Men meet on the apps, in the bars of District 1 and, for sex on the premises, in the saunas (xông hơi). Those saunas are small, local and cheap: you pay an entry ticket, get a locker and towel, and move between steam room, dry sauna, jacuzzi and the darker rooms upstairs or at the back. They open around midday and usually close at about 22:00, so the action here is an afternoon and early-evening thing, not a late-night one.

Two practical points first. Many listings now use the new ward names (Tân Định, Hòa Hưng, Hiệp Bình) introduced in Vietnam's 2025 local-government reform, while drivers still say "Quận 1" or "Quận 10". And a slash in an address means an alley: 457/69 is building 69 inside the alley that starts at number 457. Show your Grab driver the full address in Vietnamese and let them find the door.

The saunas: where the dark rooms are

These are the city's real men's saunas, where cruising between customers is part of the deal. Prices, hours and full details are on our Ho Chi Minh City saunas page; here is what matters for cruising.

69Sauna · 16 Trần Quý Khoách, Tân Định (old District 1)

The most central of the saunas, also known as The SixtyNine Zone. Reviewers describe wet, dry and salt-stone saunas, a jacuzzi and, upstairs, dark, maze-like rooms and cabins. Listed as open roughly 11:00–22:00 daily, with visitors in 2024 and 2026 reporting entry of about 150,000 VND. Busiest in the afternoons and at weekends.

Galaxy Sauna · 457/69 Cách Mạng Tháng Tám, Hòa Hưng (old District 10)

A clean, friendly local sauna down an alley off a busy boulevard, with a steam room, dry sauna, small jacuzzi and darker areas. About 12:00–22:00. Reported prices in 2026 range from about 100,000 to 200,000 VND, depending on the day and, reviewers say, your age. Some 2026 visitors objected to staff photographing their ID on a phone, so carry a copy of your passport rather than the original.

Guu Spa · Ward 12, old District 10

Despite the name, a gay sauna, not a massage spa. The Gay Passport lists a dark room, steam room, dry sauna, jacuzzi and a BDSM-themed maze, open daily 12:00–22:00. Reviewers call it cheap (one paid about 80,000 VND), very dark and at times crowded in the evenings. Listings give two different addresses in the same ward (24A Trần Thiện Chánh and 781/D11 Lê Hồng Phong), so check the pin before you set off.

Bi Sauna Men · 117b Hòa Hưng (old District 10)

A basic local sauna over three floors, described by Travel Gay as geared towards bi men and their admirers, with a steam room, a small pool and two very dark rooms, according to a November 2025 visitor. About 100,000 VND, open 12:00–22:00. Reviews are mixed: friendly and cheap, but cramped, with a mostly older crowd.

Adam Onsen & Spa by NaDam · Hiệp Bình Chánh, Thủ Đức

The large venue most guides still call NaDam: a Japanese-style bathhouse with pools, steam and dry saunas, a gym, a café-bar and a dark room, about 30 minutes north of the centre by car. Travel Gay notes that it can be dark and crowded. The Gay Passport lists it as open Tuesday to Sunday 14:00–22:00, but other listings differ, and so do the street addresses, so phone ahead (0903 974 955) before making the trip.

For Him Sauna · Tân Phú

A small sauna-and-massage venue far out in the western district of Tân Phú, with a steam room, sauna and jacuzzi. Reviews from 2024–2025 are mixed, with complaints about tip pressure and quiet afternoons. Its address varies between listings, so confirm before you go.

Men's massage spas are not cruising venues

Saigon has many more spa nam (men's spas), such as TarZan Spa For Men, Jay Spa, MB Spa and Nấm Spa. You book a massage by the hour with a male therapist, and the steam room is usually included. They are not places to meet other customers, and this is where the legal risk sits: selling sex in a spa is illegal, and most of the police raids described below were on spas, not saunas. Agree the price, the length of the session and the tip at the desk before you go into the room, and say no to any "extra service".

Bars, darkrooms and the rest

We could not verify a single cruise bar, darkroom bar, sex club, gay porn cinema or sex shop with cabins operating in Ho Chi Minh City in 2026, and current visitor guides list none. The city's gay and mixed bars, mostly in District 1, are for drinks, drag and dancing; see our Ho Chi Minh City bars page. Private underwear or "naked" parties are sometimes advertised on social media, but given the drug raids described below, think twice before going to a party at a private address or a hotel.

Outdoors and in public

Like any big city, Saigon has parks and public toilets with a reputation among men looking for each other, and older guides mention some of them. We don't send you to any of them: the city's parks are full of families, joggers and people exercising from dawn until late, and the risks in the box below are real.

The law on public sex, and your safety:

    • Public indecency is an administrative violation. Vietnam's public-order penalties are set by Decree 282/2025/NĐ-CP, issued on 30 October 2025, which replaced Decree 144/2021 from 15 December 2025. Under Article 8, clause 5, point đ, obscene or sexually arousing acts in a public place (khiêu dâm, kích dục ở nơi công cộng) carry a fine of 6 to 8 million VND, up from a minimum of 5 million under the old decree. The same clause fines sexual harassment (sàm sỡ, quấy rối tình dục).
    • Police: if police approach you, stay calm, be polite and show a copy of your passport. Don't run, don't argue and don't offer money. If you are detained, ask to contact your embassy or consulate.
    • Robbery: quiet corners and strangers' rooms are where thieves look for men who won't go to the police. Carry your phone, one card and a little cash, and leave your passport in the hotel safe.
    • App dates: meet first in a busy café or bar, tell a friend where you are going and share your location. Hotels must register guests with the police, so a visitor may be asked for ID at reception.
    • Emergency numbers: 113 for the police and 115 for an ambulance.

Raids on spas and saunas. Visiting a gay sauna is legal; buying or selling sex is not, and police in this city have raided men's spas where staff were selling it. In June 2017 more than 20 people were taken in for questioning at a massage and sauna business off Trần Thiện Chánh in District 10. In April 2018 police caught staff selling sex at Care Spa on Thành Thái, District 10; in December 2018 more than 20 men were caught at a spa on Phạm Ngọc Thạch, District 3; and in January 2019 police raided Soi9 on Đinh Tiên Hoàng, District 1, during opening hours. Customers were caught up in these raids, and the local press covered them with photos. In 2026 the city announced inspections of more than 7,000 "higher-risk" businesses, including massage venues, karaoke bars and hotels.

    • Never pay anyone for sex, and walk away from offers of "special services".
    • Keep valuables in your locker or hotel safe, and never photograph other guests.
    • Street offers of "massage" around Bùi Viện, the backpacker street, have been reported for years; ignore them.

Drugs and chemsex: the hard line

Chemsex is a growing concern across Southeast Asia, and police in the region treat drug-fuelled parties seriously: in December 2024 more than 100 people were detained at a drug party at a Bangkok hotel, and in May 2026 Malaysian police arrested 51 men in raids on a Kuala Lumpur hotel and other premises. Vietnam's own rules are stricter still.

    • Using drugs, even once, is punished: a first-time user who is not prosecuted can get a warning or a fine of 1 to 2 million VND under Article 30 of Decree 282/2025, plus a year of supervision by the local authorities.
    • Repeat use is now a crime. Article 256a, added to the Penal Code by Law 86/2025/QH15 from 1 July 2025, punishes illegal drug use by people who are in rehab, under post-rehab supervision or within two years of it, with two to three years in prison, and up to five years for reoffenders.
    • Possessing, sharing or supplying drugs is a criminal offence, and the penalties rise steeply with quantity. "Organising drug use", which can include hosting a party, is a crime too.
    • Surprise testing: police in Ho Chi Minh City carry out late-night inspections with on-the-spot drug tests. In February 2022, about 50 of some 200 guests tested positive at a club in Tân Phú; in April 2026 police inspecting a bar in Vũng Tàu ward, now part of the city, found 12 customers positive, and said surprise checks on bars, karaoke venues and hotels would continue.

The safe choice is simple: don't bring, buy or accept drugs in Vietnam, and leave any party where they appear.

    A Saigon afternoon

The saunas keep office hours, so plan your day around them. Start with cơm tấm, broken rice with grilled pork, or a bánh mì from a street cart, then a cà phê sữa đá, strong drip coffee over condensed milk and ice, on a plastic stool. When the afternoon rain comes in (roughly May to November), head for the steam room. Afterwards, find a bowl of phở and a cold Bia Saigon before the bars of District 1 get going, and raise your glass with a loud "Một, hai, ba, dzô!"

    Practical tips

    • Entry and cash: sauna tickets are cheap, roughly 80,000 to 200,000 VND in 2025–2026 reports, and there is no membership card. Bring dong in small notes for entry, drinks and tips.
    • Lockers and phones: lockers and towels are provided, sandals not always. Lock your phone away; cameras are not welcome in the dark areas.
    • Dress code: none; it's a towel. Shower before using the pools.
    • Consent: a hand gently pushed away, or "Không" (no), is enough. Respect it, and expect the same.
    • Condoms: bring your own condoms and lube, as saunas don't always provide them.
    • PEP: if a condom breaks or you had sex without protection, PEP has to start within 72 hours, and the sooner the better. The LGBTQ+-friendly G-Link clinics, which visitor guides recommend for HIV and STI testing and have several branches in the city, are the place to ask first; outside clinic hours, go to the emergency department of a large hospital.
    • Getting there and home: use Grab, Be or Xanh SM for a car or motorbike taxi; Gojek left Vietnam in September 2024. The saunas close around 22:00, so a ride home is easy to find. Metro Line 1, opened in December 2024, runs from Bến Thành towards Thủ Đức, but none of the saunas is right on it.
    • Apps: Grindr and other gay apps are widely used. Meet new contacts in a public place first, and be wary of anyone who quickly asks for money or a "gift".
    • Discretion: Saigon is easy-going, but public affection still draws looks. Keep it low-key on the street.

    Viet Pride

Viet Pride began in Hanoi in 2012 and soon spread to other cities, including Ho Chi Minh City, which now runs its own week of talks, screenings and parties around a parade on Nguyễn Huệ walking street in District 1. In 2024, Pride week ran from 21 to 29 September, and hundreds of people marched on Saturday 28 September under the theme "Đã Tới Lúc" ("It's time"). Recent editions have been held in late September. We could not confirm the dates of the 2026 edition, and the 2027 dates had not been announced when we checked, so watch Viet Pride's official social media and our VietPride Ho Chi Minh City page.

Frequently asked questions

Where is gay cruising in Ho Chi Minh City?

Mostly in the men's saunas, which have dark rooms, mazes or cabins. 69Sauna in Tân Định, Galaxy Sauna, Bi Sauna Men and Guu Spa in the old District 10 area, and NaDam (Adam Onsen and Spa) in Thủ Đức are the main ones. Beyond that, most men meet on the apps.

Are there darkroom bars or sex clubs in Saigon?

Not that we could verify in 2026. We found no cruise bar, sex club or gay porn cinema operating in the city; the gay bars are for drinks and dancing. The dark rooms are inside the saunas.

Is outdoor cruising legal in Ho Chi Minh City?

No. Sex between men is legal in Vietnam, but obscene or sexual acts in a public place are an administrative violation: since 15 December 2025, Decree 282/2025 sets a fine of 6 to 8 million VND. Parks are busy, and police and robbery are real risks, so use the saunas instead.

How strict are Vietnam's drug laws for chemsex?

Very strict. Even first-time use can bring a fine of 1 to 2 million VND and a year of local supervision, repeat use can now be a crime with prison terms, and possession or supplying drugs is a criminal offence. Police in Ho Chi Minh City run surprise drug tests at bars, karaoke venues and hotels.

When is Viet Pride in Ho Chi Minh City?

Recent Ho Chi Minh City editions have been held in late September, with a parade on Nguyễn Huệ walking street; in 2024 Pride week ran from 21 to 29 September. We could not confirm the 2026 dates, and the 2027 dates had not been announced when we checked, so watch Viet Pride's official social media.
