The atmosphere is nice but the food and service is just ok. I am not sure why the reviews are high. It's also way overpriced.

A nice, small restaurant located in the old port next to the Maritime Museum. It has a great terrace from which you can almost touch the ship and fishing boats. The food is delicious.

Really really good. Got the arctic char special of the day, lemon fish, and fish and chips. All were delicious but the arctic char was actually my favorite. The sauce with it was amazing. Fish and chips was light and flaky. Lemon fish had good flavor but there was waaaay too much butter at the bottom of the plate so everything just got coated with butter. Without all that butter it would have been great! Overall definitely recommend!! A lot of locals just hanging out too. Also prices are very reasonable for lunch especially in a touristy area.

We ordered the pan fried cod tongues and the Joi chef special. Sadly, both dishes were very disappointing. The joi chef special tasted only like bechamel sauce. It was very greasy and we couldn't taste the fish at all. The Pan Fried Cod Tongues were even worse. It looked like the fried fish had been covered with a whole glass of oil. The dish was so greasy that it felt like we were eating oil with a spoon instead of fish. The prices were also very high, even for Iceland. Overall we were very disapointed.

We did come and ordered catch of the day, after we did pay we waited 30 min and got served for one. The servant told us this was some mistake. We did ask for fish and chips if that will be quicker, we waited 20 min more and got catch of the day. This was followed by the servant complaining why did we bot cansel the fish and chips order. This is one of the most expensive lunch fish dishes I have had in a long time overpriced as the dish was without any flavour and dull as it can be.

Whilst in Iceland for my birthday in May, my sister, friends and I came across this restaurant on our way back from the Lava show. We stopped for lunch and we were served by Katerina who was friendly, polite and made us feel very welcomed. She explained the menu to us and we were not disappointed with the dishes we chose. We enjoyed the food so much and wanted to thank the chef Arvitz personally. Katerina kindly brought him to meet us which we much appreciated as the restaurant was very busy. Arvita was so humble when we expressed our gratitude and enjoyment of his culinary skills. We explained that we would be returning there for our final meal before leaving Reykjavik. Both Katerina and Arvita informed us that they would not be on duty, but assured us that the standard of service and quality of the food would remain the same. We were not disappointed when we returned and were served Maria and with Vagos as the chef. On return to our hotel, we recommended this restaurant to another guest who was also very impressed with the food and service on her visit. 👌🏾 Well done yo you all. 👏🏾 My sister and I will definitely return to Reykjavik and will absolutely eat at Kaffivagninn again. 🥳👏🏾❤️

A disapponting soggy and oily fish and chips and a poor service in a nice location

Greatly enjoyed our dinner here! The house salad was delicious, fish and chips, chef’s special, and dessert! Would definitely recommend going here!

The best plokkfiskur ! Even if there is lamb on the menu, don’t come here for it :) This is the temple of fish ! The plokkfiskur and the fish and chips are the best one i found during my trip. Great place, direct view on the Harbor and the team is very friendly.
