Abaporu Art Hostel
Visitors frequently praise the friendly, family-like atmosphere and attentive staff, with some even stating it's the best hostel they've stayed in. However, one guest reported difficulty with check-in, experiencing no response after ringing the doorbell multiple times.

I was hesitant to write my review because of the rude responses I saw other people receiving, but I decided to write it since I wanted to read this before going. I stayed at Abaporu Art Hostel at the end of April (2026), for 4 nights. Starting with check-in: I arrived punctually at the permitted time, rang the doorbell several times, but no one answered. I don't know if it was broken or not, but it was drizzling and I had a lot of heavy luggage. I was surprised by a couple who were leaving and let me in. At first, I thought it was someone opening the door simply to welcome me, but then I realized they were guests leaving the hostel who came across me wanting to come in, and even said: "Poor thing, you can come in". Thanks to them, I didn't have to wait on the street. After I entered the house, the man at reception helped me with my bags to the room. He was super welcoming. Without a doubt, the best employee there. The room had 2 bunk beds, a dresser, air conditioning, a chair and a window. I arrived at the room breathless, tired from walking so much, and went to sit in the chair, but it tipped over and I fell to the floor. I left it in the corner, lying down with the screw exposed to signal the problem, but it remained like that throughout my stay. Regarding the air conditioning, when I arrived I wanted to turn it on because it was very hot. They told me that the staff themselves would turn it on from 8 pm onwards, but it wasn't turned on any of the days I was there. So I can't say how it works, as I didn't see it on at any time. On the first day, I asked for the key to lock the room, as I was alone and didn't want to leave my things exposed. They told me the room was new, and therefore didn't have a key. I didn't like having to leave my things in the unlocked room, since I spent the whole days out of the room. There were lockers with keys, but only in the rooms on the lower level. But on my last day at the hostel, lockers were installed on the upper level. Regarding the showers, there is a timer in all of them. When the timer ran out, the water stayed cold for quite a while. On the first day, I got a shower with a 3-minute hot water countdown. I asked about it, and a staff member very reluctantly told me where to find another one. I searched the entire house that night and couldn't find it. I was too embarrassed to ask again. Then I realized all the showers worked like that. I had to take a quick shower. To wash my hair, I had to wait for the cold water to pass before it went back to hot. The view is truly beautiful, and there's a nice corner to sit and look at the sky. I met people from various countries there. I didn't talk much with everyone, but most greeted me, and nobody bothered me. It's a shame that at bedtime, the tone of voice is often not respected. Unfortunately, at night, I found several cockroaches at the entrance gate. I noticed some furniture with termites, and I got the impression that bed linens weren't always changed between guests. Regarding the kitchen, I only used the refrigerator, and each item needed to be labeled with a name. Because of this, I didn't have any problems, and nobody touched anything. Another detail: I didn't bring soap because I saw photos on the website suggesting it would be available, but I didn't find any. It was only in photos. I understand that hostels have a different and more shared concept. Some situations are part of the experience. However, there are points that really need improvement, especially regarding maintenance, security, and the service from some staff. Furthermore, after reading other reviews, I realized that more people reported similar inconveniences.
I had never stayed in a hostel before, but considering the price it's reasonable. I only stayed overnight, so I can't give a full analysis.
It doesn't look like a hostel, it really looks like an amazing hotel.
Wonderful !
In my opinion, the reception is always a calling card. And I loved Sarah, who greeted me with great politeness and attention 😃 Congratulations!
We only needed to stay one night as our flight was delayed, and the service was excellent. The room is small but very comfortable and has everything you need.
