God's Peace of Maui Bed & Breakfast, LLC

Stayed 3 nights in the cottage. Great for a family. Away from the resorts and tourist crowd. Upcountry is beautiful and quiet. Great location closer to the middle of the island.

This is miscategorized and is a hostel, and a IMO a poorly maintained one, especially with pest control. Don’t be swayed by the many photos of the pretty yard, or the carefully staged photos of some rooms. See my photos of the interior (including the shared shower and bathrooms) without staging. Please note, there is no AC, there are roach traps, there is no breakfast served by the owners, the rooms and hallways are in shabby condition and can get noisy. You may, like me, encounter roaches in the kitchen and a large spider that looks like a tarantula in the shower. With fees we paid over $200/night for this, but left after one night for a nice spacious one bedroom near the beach in Kīhei for $226. I wasn’t just disappointed but shocked at the disparity between price and quality at this “bed and breakfast.” Some booking platforms like Expedia will say “private bathroom” at this property because one unit out of eight on the property has a private bathroom. Don’t be misinformed. The owners are jamming seven guest rooms into their home. They’re making plenty of money from this operation with so many rooms, but not putting nearly enough into the maintenance of their property, not even proper pest control. All that said, at a much lower price for a male traveler this could still make sense as a place to stay. Videos and photos attached.

The room was clean, although I found a tablet on my bed when I checked in. As for the shared facilities, it was a different story. I understand that their condition also depends on other guests, but when you check in at 3 p.m. and they are already dirty, it does not give a very good impression. The shared bathrooms were dirty, with hair in the shower, and the kitchen was not clean either (fridge and microwave). It was also noisy — we could hear the dogs on the first floor running around in the evening. Early in the morning, someone was also shouting about what the dogs had done during the night. The outside looks super nice and there is enough space to park a few cars. For the level of service and overall experience, it was a bit expensive.

We just left (or rather, escaped) after one night at this place. We had booked two nights but could not stay any longer. My entire body started to itch; instead of acknoledging that there might be hygiene issues - think: animal hair, cockroached and chicken poop - the owner laughed at me instead of offering another room / solution. Their rude behavior contrasted sharply with all the bible verses that serve as decoration on pillows, walls and towels. We decided to cut our loses and move out, despite having already paid the second night, rather than stay another night. For those considering this stay: be aware that it is not a B&B but rather a lowest quality hostel. Bathrooms are shared, no a/C, cockroaches, no privacy (can hear every conversation through thin walls, starting as early as 6:30am). I have stayed in similar places as a student / Backpacker in developing countries, yet this place easily makes it to the bottom of the list because of the rude behavior of the owner. Especially for the price they charge, it is truly an audacity.

You can feel God's peace here. A beautiful place in central Maui. The jacuzzi is nice at night time, with the mountains in the distance and the stars in the sky. The host helped me with a 3rd party booking error. Might be better to book direct.
