The room was cozy but the wifi here is ridiculously slow you can’t do a thing

Oakes on Market is an amazing hotel. I have been coming here for at least 10 years with colleagues and friends. Whilst some of the rooms are a little dated, they are always impeccably clean and well presented. The staff are next level, so friendly and helpful, I give them a 10 out of 10.

Rooms are pretty average. Had to get my room changed as the first one had foul smell. Staff was quite polite and helpful.

Lovely. Great for a family of 5. Excellent pool, spa, sauna an gym. The breakfast buffet was wonderful.

I miss this spa so so much..has a nice pool, excellent shower facilities, lots of towels. Downstairs has an amazing modern foyer that smells absolutely divine and a bar, dining areas, a carpark, gym, and a stone's throw from the tram. Takes about ten to walk over to Bourke Street mall, or two tram stops to Spencer station. Has a fantastic array of meals available and can be bought to your room. The new buffet breakfast is meticulously crafted and an absolute must to include with the room! The staff are very helpful and the rooms...golly gosh, posh as with ultra modern updates. Also has a kitchen and clothes dryer and dishwasher!!! Saw they have live entertainment too on occasion. Can't wait to stay again.

The room was spacious and tidy. It had complete and functional apartment-room-features: a big bathroom with the amenities, kitchen, cloth iron, living room. The location is close to immigration museum, and just minutes of walking away from flinders st and other city centre shops. The breakfast was tasty -I love their omelettes.

Stayed with them for 2 weeks. 1) Room wasn't not cleaned properly daily. Sink was still left stained, face towels/hair towels being taken away without any replacement. We had to call the reception for the towels needed. 2) Reception staff were not very empathetic of need for late check by an hour and wanted to charge AUD25/hour for extension. Our room cards were disabled at 10am sharp. 3) Breakfast consisted of 7 main dishes and eggs, however, out of 7 dishes, 5 of them were vegetarian friendly. The daily menu were hash browns, vegetarian springs rolls/samosas, baked beans, pancake/waffles, bacon and sausage. No varieties at all. And the main chef, Vamsi, was very rigid in his cooking ways: eggs have to cooked whole and disallowed eggs to be cooked without egg yolk. The rest of the chefs were flexible to accommodate to the guests' request. 4) The cafe seems to be lack of manpower, during peak periods, tables not cleared, dishes not replaced, bread station is empty and breakfast times are delayed for opening. 5) When we checked in on the first day, we had to face a leaky tap as the receptionist claimed that they don't have any maintenance team working on Sundays. So we had to ensure the dripping noise the whole night that disturbed our sleep. The Aircon unit was also rather noisy. The only advantage that this place have would be it's proximity to Flinders Station, Southern Cross Station and to CBD shopping districts, which are a 10-15mins walk away. Much improvement would be required.

I stayed here for 3 nights during my trip to Melbourne. While I suppose it's somewhat unavoidable, the building and facilities showed their age. It seems like there's a chance of getting a bad room. On the positive side, it's located in the city center with good access to the tram. The kitchen makes it suitable for longer stays or simple self-catering. The bathtub was also a plus. The room itself was clean. However, there were a few issues with the facilities. The refrigerator's power switch was broken and unusable. Also, although there was a bathtub, there was no stopper, so I couldn't fill it with hot water. Mold was also visible on the tiles around the bathtub. During my 3-day stay, there was no room cleaning, and towels weren't replaced unless I specifically requested it. Perhaps that's part of the plan. Also, the room card suddenly stopped working at one point. The staff weren't particularly friendly, but they did respond properly to my requests. If location and price are your priorities, this could be a viable option, but those who prioritize modern facilities and service might find several points of concern.
