Independence Park (Gan HaAtzmaut)

Independence Park (Gan HaAtzmaut / גן העצמאות) is a large green space in central West Jerusalem, bounded by Agron, King George and Hillel Streets. For decades it has been the city's best-known gay cruising area after dark, quietly tolerated in an otherwise religiously conservative city.

Activity has thinned considerably in the app era, and the park sits close to religious and mixed neighborhoods, so discretion is essential: keep to well-lit paths, avoid going alone late at night, and remember that Jerusalem is far less liberal than Tel Aviv. By day it is simply a pleasant, ordinary city park.
