About this place Independence Park (Gan HaAtzmaut)

Independence Park (Gan HaAtzmaut) is a large park in central West Jerusalem, bounded by Agron, King George and Hillel Streets. For decades it was the city's best-known gay cruising spot after dark, tolerated quietly in a religiously conservative city. Activity has dropped a lot in the app era. The park borders religious and mixed neighbourhoods, so keep a low profile: stay near lit paths, avoid going alone late at night, and remember Jerusalem is far less relaxed than Tel Aviv. By day it is an ordinary city park used by families and office workers.

Great picnic area Needs more childrens' climbing & other equipment nearer to picnic areas, along with more seating & benches.

Could have been, and obviously in the past has been, so much better. Recently visited to find a small very average park- all water features dried up and dirty. Very disappointing and not worth a visit.

The park is a welcome contrast to many American in city parks. No dog leavings to worry about, well-tended, clean with no cigarette butts. Just relax for a bit and enjoy to and from the Old City.

After celebrating Independence Day we decided to visit Independence park as it was a short walk from our hotel. We relaxed quickly once we entered the park and admired the grassy areas with water features and flowers in bloom. Good to see that there are plenty of seats scattered around so you can enjoy the park in comfort. Plenty of shady areas too for picnics. Our visit was at a time when there was evidence of maintenance so barriers were spoiling the scene but maintenance is essential for parks. What we did observe though was a lack of rubbish bins around the park. Nice place to spend a few hours though.

This is a nice large park centrally located in downtown Jerusalem, a five minute walk from the Old City. Plenty of space to sit and relax.

It is the only park in the central area of town with lots of grass. Ideal for family picknicks or just relaxing with a book.

In the middle of the city-center, btween the busy streets of the city there is a wide green spot to stroll, after a nice meal anywhere at the near by restaurant, or after a shopping tour in the area. It is spacious and full of shaded spots to sit either on a bench or on the green grass.

The park is splendid. It has lots of shade during those hot Jerusalem summers. We were with a group of around 20 people and spent a few hours talking and reminiscing.

With its pines and green lawns, with water runnng here and there under your feet and between huges blocks of rocks, the park has to offer quietude, serenity and rest to anyone who needs to escape the centre of town's turmoil! there are benches everywhere, but the best is just to sit under a tree, shut your eyes closed, breethe in the scents of the pines, listen to birds' singing, enjoy the frsh ess of the shadows and the beauty of the Jerusalem sky...

Nice garden, 3 adjoining gardens. Facilities for all ages from fitness to swings and slides. There are neat toilets and a drinking fountain. Overall, a good atmosphere, there are shady places and benches.

PARTIALLY CLOSED! Used to be a Wonderful park right in the city center. We saw insect eggs on a wall and crows taking baths in the water. The water is flowing only in winter. The big playground is a bit strange. The one for the little ones is beautiful. But dogs are running all over the place. Also in winter, the place is windy. One needs a scarf if one doesn't want so get a cold.

Dirty, uninviting. The municipality destroyed the garden.

The park is currently closed for construction. It's surrounded by large white barriers. What a shame.

The performances were electric. The crowd was on fire and the evening was incredibly enjoyable, especially coming right after memorial Day
