Prize by Radisson, Bern City

Finding the hotel entrance by car is very difficult. In fact, you can't even reach the entrance by car. The rooms were spacious, airy, and clean. The hotel car park costs 22 Swiss Francs per night, but there are free parking spaces on the street behind the hotel. There's a machine in the lobby where you can get free coffee and tea, but they don't even provide a single tea bag. You can't get tea unless you bring your own. When you scan the QR code they give you at reception, you get a Bern transport ticket valid for the duration of your stay. The hotel is only 4-5 stops from the city center, and there's a stop right in front of the hotel, so getting to the center is very convenient. The beds were very comfortable, but unfortunately, as in many international hotels, the pillows were very uncomfortable. There's a fairly large Coop supermarket right below the hotel where you can find everything you need.

I recently stayed at the Prize by Radisson in Bern. On the positive side, the bed was clean and very comfortable, and the staff was generally friendly. Unfortunately, the overall cleanliness of the room, especially the bathroom, was unsatisfactory. There was dirt in several corners, small mosquitoes were stuck to the walls, the curtains were visibly dirty, and there was also significant soiling in the shower area and around the wastebasket (see photos). I reported this immediately to reception. Three staff members then came to inspect the room. To my surprise, I was told that the room was clean. When I asked whether this met the hotel's standards, I didn't receive a clear "no." Frankly, this bothered me. Since the hotel was fully booked due to the high season, according to reception, and no other room was available, I bought disinfectant wipes myself and cleaned the affected areas. When I showed the soiled cleaning cloth to the reception staff, I was told again that nothing further could be done. Mistakes can happen in any hotel. However, I found the way my complaint was handled and the obvious soiling not acknowledged particularly disappointing. I hope that more emphasis will be placed on room inspections and handling guest feedback in the future. The photos are not intended to disparage the hotel, but rather to show the condition I found upon arrival. With a little more attention to cleaning and a more customer-oriented approach to complaints, my stay would have been significantly more pleasant.

The hotel is in a good location. It's easily accessible from the main train station by public transport; bus number 10 towards Ostermundigen from the main station, Schönburg stop, stops directly in front of the hotel. It's a great base for exploring Bern. The Rose Garden is nearby, and the other sights are within walking distance or easily reachable by bus. The hotel has a rooftop bar, but unfortunately, it was closed due to staff illness. The hotel offers complimentary tea, coffee, water, and mineral water 24 hours a day. The rooms are very simply furnished. There's no wardrobe, no safe, no glasses for teeth in the bathroom, and only two cardboard cups in the room. It's also worth noting that room service isn't provided daily. Only the trash can is emptied. The room was okay. Room cleaning in general could be improved with minimal effort, I think. Getting a response from the hotel, either by phone or in person, is also difficult. It's also difficult to get through to the hotel. Breakfast was okay; they had scrambled eggs, eggs, a meat and cheese platter, yogurt, Bircher muesli, various breads and rolls, fruit, and pancakes. The staff was friendly.

After sending several emails and trying to contact the hotel by phone, I was unable to get a response. Ultimately, following my stay, the hotel and a service provider were supposed to reimburse me for a product I paid for but didn't receive… I am unfortunately still waiting for their reply.

Excellent experience in Bern! The hotel has a prime location, great infrastructure, and a very good breakfast. Everything was very comfortable and well-organized, making the stay even more pleasant.

and why are you here?

- I would give the hotel a ZERO for cleanliness. The carpet in the hallways is disgusting, it stinks everywhere in the hallways and in the rooms, smelling like dirty socks and damp. The sheets don't smell good. A baby vomited on the floor while we were checking in, and the next morning when we checked out, it was still there. The floor is filthy everywhere. The curtains in the rooms are disgusting, covered in stains. - The hotel is extremely poorly managed. The receptionist was alone, trying to handle all the hotel's problems: self check-in wasn't working, several people couldn't find their reservations due to a system bug, the system started an update in the middle of a busy period, and the employee also had to manage the bar at the same time. We had several problems, which he helped us resolve with great kindness and patience. The total wait time at reception for all of this was 1 hour and 30 minutes. Again, this isn't the fault of the employee who handled everyone's problems magnificently. The next morning, there were at least three employees at reception, and we were practically twiddling our thumbs. - The bed and pillows were absolutely uncomfortable, on a very hard mattress. We didn't dare ask for a change given how overwhelmed the receptionist was. - Be aware that on Booking.com, the hotel is listed as a 3-star, but it's actually a 2-star! The name "by Radisson" is misleading, suggesting it's an affordable version of a very upscale chain. But it's actually a very low-cost hotel. The only positive points are: the friendliness of the receptionist, the quiet atmosphere, and the ideal location. I will definitely not be returning.
