Midway Café is a no‑frills rock bar in Jamaica Plain that doubles as a queer‑night hub on Thursdays. Opened in 1987 at 3496 Washington Street, the space is barely bigger than a rehearsal room. Most nights you’ll find local bands, punk shows or a DJ spinning for a mixed crowd. It never tried to brand itself as a gay bar, but it isn’t shy about the music or the crowd. Every Thursday at 8:30 p.m. the place hosts Queeraoke, one of Boston’s longest‑running queer nights. A modest cover keeps the door open, and the Boston Calendar still lists the event through autumn 2026. The Midway’s reputation for dyke and queer dance nights stretches back decades, so the dance floor knows how to move when the right track drops. Drinks stay cheap, and the Green Street stop on the Orange Line is just a short walk away. If you’re looking for a place where a punk riff can segue into a karaoke chorus without missing a beat, this is the spot.

Absolutely horrible. I arrive at 11:35pm and already being shutdown. Couldn’t even get one drink and they were supposed to close at 2am. Not the correct way to run things.

One of the last remaining bar/venues in the Boston area. A wide variety of shows ranging from karaoke to comedy to every musical genre. Drinks are surprisingly affordable compared to most other bars and venues.
