Pocketbook Hudson

So, so, so noisy. Staying anywhere in Manhattan is much more peaceful than a night here. It's really unfortunate, as in some ways, they've done such a nice, creative and thoughtful job restoring this factory to use. But the lack of really basic acoustic insulation, at this price point, is dumbfounding. You can hear every movement, every word, every bathroom (and other) activity by your neighbors. Your upstairs neighbor might keep you up till 3-4am (as we unfortunately experienced both nights - despite using ear plugs). Frustratingly, the noise of the folks at the front desk having conversations travels across the first floor rooms very easily as well. I did ultimately text the overnight number to see if they could reach out to our neighbors about the noise, which they did, but to limited avail. The baths, like much of the renovation otherwise, are really beautiful. Over the course of a weekend in April, they ranged from near-deserted to very crowded. The staff were absolutely lovely, from the baths to the front desk to the restaurant, which we didn't eat at, but we did have some nice drinks. I live in a building just as old as this hotel. I get there might be some sound transfer but whatever they did(n't) do here makes the building completely unsuitable for hospitality use, much less a luxury experience. Bizarre. If you go, at a minimum, insist on a top floor room. Though you'll still run a risk of sleepless nights on account of neighbors on the same floor. I was relieved to get home to my own bed, which is unfortunately not the sign of a successful relaxing weekend.

Stunning, the attention to detail and artistry is incredible

I really enjoyed my time at the bath house. The facility was immaculately clean, peaceful, and very well maintained. My favorite part was the shower inside the steam room. Such a thoughtful touch that made the experience feel extra accommodating. I went on a Monday afternoon, so it was quiet, and I appreciated the signs asking guests to whisper. The atmosphere felt calm from start to finish. The products were high quality. I’m a veteran hairstylist with coily hair, and my curls had great definition using only their shampoo and conditioner. I’d love to see them add more products like a body lotion or hair cream. The Dyson blow dryers with the diffuser, comb, and concentrator nozzle attachments were another great touch. A little more guidance about the private dressing areas and fresh towels in the locker room would have made the experience even smoother, but overall I left feeling refreshed and relaxed. I drove an hour and a half to get there, and it was absolutely worth it. I would definitely come back.

We went to the Ambos restaurant and it was 100% extraordinary. Top notch service and food.

We had an amazing stay at the new Pocketbook Hudson. The rooms were thoughtfully designed and felt like a contemporary Catskills cabin with tall ceilings and beautiful stainless steel finishes. The spa is a fantastic intimate experience, and included as part of the stay. The restaurant and bar also had a fanatic service and a buzzing atmosphere with a lively crowd. Overall we would highly recommend!

Excellent room, excellent staff, excellent bar, excellent restaurant, excellent spa, excellent location, excellent everything! Definitely coming back here and already told others about it.

Really beautifully designed, you can tell a lot of thought went into every detail. The space felt really special. To be honest, seemingly a bit out of touch to the area after spending time in the town. But hey...NYers for you! Restaurant was a standout. Inventive and thoughtful, recommend getting the beef hearts. Great service, especially the Argentinian waitress, and a shout out to Arturo at the front desk, he was lovely, informative and caring. A few things to note. The acoustics in the rooms are not good, you literally hear everything. I mean everything. The baths are great in theory but felt overcrowded and not that well kept. People weren’t really following the rules, talking loudly, literally jumping into the cold plunge, not showering before entering the baths, even going in with makeup. It would help if staff set expectations more clearly on entry, and kept a mindful eye when people were in the baths, it took away from the experience was probably intended as. The sauna also needs a fix, it’s uneven so water pools on the benches which didn’t feel very clean. Overall, a lot to love, especially the design and food, but the shared spaces need a bit more care.

Genuinely one of the worst hotels I've ever stayed at. These people did NOT hire an acoustic engineer when they refurbished this joint and it shows. You can hear your neighbours bowel movements flow through the pipes, you can hear everyone's conversations above and beside you, you can hear every single step everyone takes, it's obscene. They try to be cutesy and say "oh it's old so it creeks", nah mate, you didn't think of acoustic insulation, and as such you have an incredibly hostile uncomfortable place to stay. I cannot emphasize enough, this place is absolutely NOT WORTH THE MONEY.
