Hillside Boutique Hotel

Me, my mom and daughter stayed here for a girls weekend. This was my first weekend postpartum and I was a little nervous but every single aspect of this property made this weekend absolutely unbelievable. Everyone we met helped us, and was genuinely so excited that we were there. They remembered our names when they saw us on the grounds. I really needed this weekend and I can’t wait to be back. They told us the history of the hotel. Just wow. Incredible job to everyone that works here.

We stayed may 2-3 and everything about this hotel is perfect, amazing views, amazing service. However, they had work going on that we were not made aware of when we called to book days prior. Extremely loud welding and construction in the pool area both Saturday and early Sunday made it impossible to enjoy our spa services and relax at the pool. Then there was multiple high pitched deer deterrent devices all around the property that were ear piercing and made enjoying the pool and view in serenity impossible. We finally had to ask for them to be shut off and they only complied with shutting off a few for us. I loved this experience here and I would love to return, however I am not happy that we were not made aware our stay would be plagued by extremely unnerving noises. It felt that we paid full price for an amazing experience but the concern for their upgrades and deer deterrents ended up being a huge deterrent for their guests. I believe construction work should be saved for during the week when guests are less likely to be wanting to relax and getaway. Ultimately very disappointed in a beautiful property that didn’t seem to value our relaxation time.

Not staying at hotel but nearby. Called to make a reservation for a massage at their spa. Made reservation 10 days out. Got there and found out they don’t have a masseuse any longer. Phone call made to me but no message left. Just wasted my time and very disappointed.

We got married at Hillside Boutique Hotel in March 2026. We originally booked in February 2025 with Penny, and a few months into planning Rebecca took over. Throughout the planning process, communication was inconsistent. Emails and texts would often go unanswered for weeks, which made it difficult to stay organized and confident in the details of our wedding. We also noticed pricing discrepancies from our original agreement and were told certain things had been missed, which created confusion. We repeatedly requested a tasting with the chef, but despite some responses, a date was never confirmed. We were told we had to wait on the chef’s schedule, and before we knew it, it was already January and we never had a tasting. We were still assured the food would be “100%.” Another issue was with the room block. We were initially told a room block would be in place for our guests, but this was never properly set up. Rebecca later mentioned there had been new management and apologized, but by that point, our guests were already having difficulty booking rooms. As a result, several of our out-of-town guests were unable to stay on-site. We also had issues with our own room assignments. My mom and I were supposed to have side-by-side rooms (101 and 103). When she arrived, she was initially placed in room 300, but after we addressed it, they did move her to room 103 that same night. However, when I arrived, room 101 was no longer available, so I had to stay in a different room elsewhere above her, which was not what had been planned. Unfortunately, the food was the biggest disappointment of the entire experience. My husband is an executive chef, and many of our guests are chefs, food consultants, doctors, and business owners—so the quality was very noticeable. The food was overcooked (over-grilled proteins, overdone potatoes), portions were minimal (a piece of broccolini), and some guests who were supposed to receive salmon did not receive it at all. My mom even had to return my 85-year-old uncle’s chicken twice because it was too tough to cut. Now, weeks later, guests continue to tell us how beautiful the venue was and how amazing the wedding felt overall—but almost always follow it with comments about the food. It’s honestly disappointing and a bit embarrassing to say we paid $34 per plate for 104 guests for a meal that did not meet expectations. No one from the venue addressed or acknowledged the food issues during the event, which was frustrating because we would have appreciated the opportunity to correct things in real time. We also experienced a 30-minute delay due to rain, which added some stress. We were later offered a 50% discounted weekend stay along with a $100 dining credit. While we appreciate the gesture, we kindly declined as we did not feel it adequately addressed the concerns. That said, the venue itself is absolutely beautiful, and our wedding was still a special and memorable day. The setting and atmosphere are the reason for the 3-star rating. However, the lack of communication, disorganization with accommodations, and especially the food quality are why it cannot be rated higher.

The drive here was so easy from downtown San Antonio. It took me less time to get here from my house than it would have to get to La Cantera or The Rim. Once I pulled up to this quiet oasis, I was absolutely floored by the 180 degree views and amazing service. The front desk agent was bright and helpful, and the restaurant was impeccable. I went in for the heat bites and a shrimp and grits, but I stayed for the service! The GM came by and spoke to us, too- what a wonderful human. They recently did a renovation and everything was floor to ceiling beautiful. I loved sitting on the back porch with a glass of champagne. I can’t wait to go back and enjoy the pool. My only disappointment was that I didn’t have longer to stay and enjoy the space more. 12/10 will be back!

Very comfortable room, large and cozy. Have stayed 2 times and will most certainly be back. Great food at the restaurant on site La Colline, great staff and friendly service.

The hotel is in the process of being remolded. Rooms were clean and updated. Don’t leave the door open to your room or vehicle, as feral cats are plentiful.

I work with a local dealership here in Castroville. We recently had out 2026 Kick Off Breakfast at the Hillside Boutique. I would rate our experience, the food, and the staff all 10/10. The event coordinator was on top of everything. We will continue to use them in the future.

Hidden in plain sight wonderfully cozy hotel with superb fancy-ness quality and warm amenities.

Not very often something with such value to an area gets updated and they keep the character and ambiance of the past while adding too it. Hillside Boutique Hotel is your go to Christmas party, wedding venue or just simply romantic escape. While located in Castroville the Allsation flavor of history is rich and unique change of flavors rich in its own heritage. Highly reccomend if your passing through to stop and rest a while.
