Taj Campton Place

Taj Campton Place was a well-rounded stay, and much of that was shaped by the quality of service at breakfast. Eligio was attentive and consistently helpful. We follow a strictly egg-free vegetarian diet, and he handled this with care and thought throughout our stay. The parathas were a particular highlight, freshly prepared and well-suited to our palate. He also arranged a custom dessert for a special occasion during our visit, a considered and personal gesture. The location in Union Square worked very well for us. Taj offered a room upgrade on arrival, and the view from the room was well worth it. The interiors are tasteful, housekeeping was thorough, and the overall experience held up across every front. A hotel we would return to.

The staff at the Taj Campton was truly the best. They worked hard to accommodate us every step of the way. I arrived a few days before our stay (we went to Napa for three days) and they graciously stored our wedding clothes and bags until we checked in. The front desk person made notes on our reservation and went out of his way to make sure things would go smoothly when we showed up. During our stay, we were given such good treatment. We valeted our car, which, of course is expensive and we were graciously told we could use a less expensive lot nearby (we choose not to do that but it was so nice to be offered). Our rooms were great, the two baby cribs were in place and good quality. Breakfast was delicious. Everything was 5 star but the most important thing was the STAFF WAS OUTSTANDING.

Our stay was okay, but I was expecting more considering this hotel is part of the American Express Hotel Collection. The housekeeping staff was excellent and did a great job throughout our stay. Unfortunately, our experience with room service was very disappointing. We ordered a simple breakfast of eggs and juice, and the food was honestly inedible. I’m not a picky eater, but I couldn’t finish it. The eggs tasted more like oil than eggs, and the potatoes had an unpleasant taste. The juice cost $14, yet the glass was only about half full and seemed heavily diluted with water. We spent nearly $100 on breakfast and ended up throwing most of it away. After that experience, we didn’t want to order food from the hotel again for the rest of our stay. Another downside was the lack of parking. The hotel does not offer on-site parking, so we had to use a nearby lot, which added a significant extra expense to our trip. Overall, while the housekeeping team was great, the poor food quality and parking situation made the stay disappointing, especially given the expectations associated with the Amex Hotel Collection.

Can't beat the location and price. Small hotel, but good service and clean rooms. Restaurant is overpriced but good. Definitely reserve a table because it's packed.

Stayed here for a 2 night stay. This hotel offers a fantastic experience. It is well located in the heart of SF and gives easy access to many parts of SF. Service is incredibly friendly- the waiter for breakfast is on top of it. The rooms are well maintained and definitely deserves props for that.

Amazing Indian food with Taj hospitality standard !

Very disappointed with my experience at Taj Campton Place. For a luxury Taj property, the guest service expectations were not met. * The kitchen closes around 9:30 PM, so getting dinner after that is practically impossible. * On Sunday and Monday, their signature Indian restaurant remains closed, which was especially disappointing for guests expecting Indian food from a Taj hotel. * Even for small in-room requests, the hotel charges around $10 delivery/service fees, which feels excessive. The location is good, but the overall hospitality and food availability were not what I expected from the Taj brand. Stayed on 24 /25 may 2026

Stayed 1 night at Taj Campton Place, San Francisco before boarding cruise and honestly it was the perfect start to the trip. The location right by Union Square made it super convenient for a quick San Francisco stay, and the service felt warm and polished from check-in to check-out. Booked through Amex Platinum FHR and the benefits were absolutely worth it — enjoyed the $100 dining credit at the hotel restaurant/bar, breakfast for two, and late checkout which made embarkation day much more relaxing. The room was elegant, quiet, and very comfortable after a long travel day. Loved the boutique luxury vibe here more than the usual big chain hotels. Great option if you want a classy pre-cruise stay in San Francisco while maximizing Amex hotel credits. Would definitely stay again.

**Beware - Excessive Junk Fees! ** How would you like to check in to your 5* star hotel late at night and be charged an additional $35 "Incidential Services" fee per day for services you don't want and will never use. (And to have the hotel’s confusing ad listing deliberately fail to clearly disclose this policy - rather cleverly listing it in “mouse type” - if showing it at all.) If this is your idea of luxury travel, then this is the perfect San Francisco hotel for you! *"Incidental Services”consist of, for example, the opportunity to place free international telephone calls - that you will never make. Plus Wi-Fi service - that is clearly shown in the hotel’s promotional material as “Included at no charge.” Plus: Two (2) bottles of water - Retail value: $.88. And a Mini-Bar - that was not provided at all. Obviously, this is simply an underhanded rate increase - hardly an honourable business practice. Bringing these shortcomings to the attention of Tran, the Manager on Duty, elicited his justification that “Everyone is charging this" - repeated a half dozen times. This is how to burn assiduously-accrued customer loyalty.
