I recently attended an event at this hotel and used the valet parking service. When I returned to pick up my car, it was parked in a convenient location near the entrance. However, the key was not left inside the vehicle. I asked the attendants at the entrance, and they directed me to Alexander. When I requested my key, he showed it to me but refused to hand it over until I tipped him. He did this in a noticeably aggressive and impatient manner, creating a clear “tip or no car” situation. I was planning to tip anyway for the service, but the experience felt more like extortion than optional gratitude for good service. Tipping should be voluntary and based on excellent service — not a mandatory fee to get your own vehicle back. Another attendee confirmed the same thing happened to them and others. The rest of the event and hotel were fine, but this valet interaction left a really bad taste. Guests shouldn’t have to feel pressured or held up by staff just to retrieve their car and key. I hope the hotel management addresses this, as it reflects poorly on the property.

Fabulous hotel. Unfortunately, my room was tiny so while I highly recommend staying there, try to make sure you don't get one of the small rooms. Friends who traveled with us also had a regular room (not a suite) and it was much larger than ours.

The Hay-Adams is a great place to stay. Location is perfect and rooms are very nice and service is top tier.

So wonderful! Room was large, well decorated, and comfortable. Bed was too die for! The tub was perfect for my bubble bath! Drinks at Off the Record were delicious! Highly recommend!

Off the record is one of the best bars in DC

For $920 per room per night, guests have a right to expect far better service. Some guest rooms apparently have very good views. Others, like room 702, have effectively zero views out of any of the windows.

My wife & I were there May 1. Our experience could not have been better, from check in to check out. We especially appreciated the Saturday morning attention we received from the concierge, Brian. He had the answers to all of our questions and was a wealth of knowledge about the Hotel and the neighborhood. Thank you Brian!
