Hinsegin Nordurland (Queer North Iceland)

Hinsegin Nordurland (Queer North Iceland) is the LGBTQ+ community organisation for Akureyri and the wider northern region, run hand in hand with the national society Samtokin '78. It brings queer people in the north together through regular meet-ups, social evenings and peer support, and works with local schools and the municipality on queer education and visibility. The group is also one of the driving forces behind North Iceland Pride (Hinsegin Hatid), the region's Pride festival held each June. For visitors it is the most direct way to plug into local LGBTQ+ life in a town with no dedicated gay bar or venue, so check their Facebook page for current events and meeting times.
