Aterro do Flamengo (cruising)

The Aterro do Flamengo (Parque do Flamengo) is Rio's largest urban park, a long stretch of lawns and wooded paths between Glória and Flamengo along Guanabara Bay. After dark the quieter, tree-lined areas near the Marina da Gloria and around the parking lots have a long-standing reputation as a discreet gay cruising spot (locally, pegacao). It is a public park, so activity is informal and unofficial; go with normal discretion, keep valuables minimal, and be aware that Rio has genuine street-crime risk in isolated areas at night. Daytime the park is a popular, family-friendly place for sport and beach access.
