Detroit Marriott at Renaissance Center

Best hotel to be in if you are in Detroit. Friendly people and good food.

The operation of the hotel is miserable, not supportive nor helpful. They take forever to respond or even send you a towel. Not very clean. I do not recommend it.

Impressive building that is mostly empty which is an interesting experience. Prepare for the crazy costs $37 for breakfast is extortion $20 for a sandwich. Service is ok and the elevators are an interesting experience

I am incredibly disappointed in my experience staying at Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center. We arrived at 11pm to wait 20 mins to be seen by one front desk agent (due to a huge line), and were then told that our King room we reserved was not available. They tried to downgrade us to a room with two full beds, and only after showing my disappointment were we offered an "accessible" room with a king bed. If we reserve and pay for a specific room, we should not have to doubt that we will receive that room. The 1st floor lobby, and all elevators and hallways smell distinctly like old cigarettes. Our room smelled slightly like old cigarettes and was very outdated. For the price we paid for this room, I was assuming it would have been updated. The one redeeming quality was the direction of the gym, facing directly east which led to watching a beautiful sunrise from the treadmills. Overall, I'm very dissatisfied with my experience at this location and will never book again. Would advise anyone with other options to do the same.

Dramatic and eerily empty brutalist lobby by John Portman: enjoy it before it gets demolished next year! Location is great, right on the river walk, take a MoGo bike to get around. Views are great too, but glass was pretty dirty. Getting to the people mover can be confusing, ask the staff. Elevators are usually just fine, but when there’s a large event, we waited 20+ minutes, which was nuts.

I am extremely disappointed with my experience at the Detroit Marriott. Given its prime location, beautiful views of downtown Detroit and Windsor, Ontario, and the reputation of the Marriott brand, I expected a much higher standard of service and hospitality. Unfortunately, this stay has been a major disappointment from the moment I checked in. Upon arrival, our room was missing basic essentials, including bath towels, washcloths, and hand towels. After contacting the front desk to request these items, we were informed they could not be provided until the following morning. For a full-service Marriott hotel, being unable to provide guests with something as fundamental as towels is simply unacceptable. The problems did not end there. The television in our room was not working, requiring maintenance to come to the room. In addition, the bathtub would not drain properly, requiring maintenance to return a second time to address yet another issue. Guests should not have to spend the first evening of their stay waiting on repeated maintenance visits for problems that should have been identified and corrected before the room was ever assigned. The overall condition of the hotel was also disappointing. For a property in such a prime downtown location with breathtaking views of Detroit and Windsor, the hotel is in desperate need of updates and renovations. It is unfortunate that such an iconic location has been allowed to become so outdated. The condition of the guest rooms and facilities simply does not reflect the quality or standard that guests expect from the Marriott brand. Another issue was the water temperature in our room. It was nearly impossible to enjoy a comfortable shower because the water fluctuated between freezing cold and extremely hot, with no consistent warm temperature in between. This is a basic expectation for any hotel and should not be an issue at a full-service Marriott property. As a loyal Marriott Bonvoy member and Marriott credit card holder, I have stayed at many Marriott properties over the years, and this experience falls far below the standards I have come to expect from the brand. What is most frustrating is that this hotel has known for well over a year that it would be hosting this major event. The volume of guests should not have come as a surprise. Failing to adequately prepare with sufficient housekeeping staff, room inspections, basic linens, and operational rooms reflects poor planning and ineffective leadership. Unfortunately, it also reflects poorly on the Marriott brand as a whole. I do want to make one thing abundantly clear: none of these issues are a reflection of the frontline staff. Every employee we encountered worked tirelessly to put out one fire after another, responding to guest concerns, maintenance requests, and service failures that should never have occurred in the first place. They treated us with professionalism, kindness, patience, and grace despite being placed in an incredibly difficult position. The failures we experienced are a direct reflection of leadership and management’s lack of planning, preparation, and support for their employees. It is evident that the staff members who are the boots on the ground are doing everything they can with the resources they have been given. I sincerely want to thank them for their hard work and for continuing to serve guests with a smile under what are clearly very stressful circumstances. They deserve recognition, not blame. This experience was not what I expected from Marriott. I expect hotel leadership to take accountability for these service failures, invest in the necessary improvements to this property, better support their employees, and provide appropriate compensation for the inconvenience and disruption to our stay. My hope is that future guests receive the level of service and quality that the Marriott name has long represented.

Bed bugs! Tun from this place! Its literally abandoned. No food, nothing. Worst hotel experience I've had.
