Great hotel
Great neighborhood, convenient to everything Barcelona has to offer. Surprisingly spacious room, immaculately clean. Friendly staff. Hotel is very LTGBQ friendly.
This is a very special hotel. Actually quite fine with good rooms, clean and nice bed. But didn't know it was a place for men who wanted to be with men. It wasn't a problem for me, but everything was marked by it. For example, there were condoms in the room and a roll up in front of the skyscraper with men in swimsuit Had wish they had informed about it before I booked. Not that I had chosen it because of it but just that I was prepared
Friendly atmospherebat the Rooftop bar
I had a wonderful stay at this hotel! The staff were incredibly friendly and always made me feel welcome. There was such a positive and relaxing energy throughout the hotel, especially around the bar and pool area, which created a great atmosphere every day. The room was very comfortable, clean, and well-maintained. The breakfast was also excellent, with a great variety of fresh and delicious options. Overall, a fantastic experience and I would happily stay here again!
Arrived very late at night on 9th oc May, even we booked room for 8th of May. Got a room what was actually totally not what we expected when were booking: no toiletries in the room, no dressing gown, no slippers. Shower room had a window and broken blinds what was not possible to close, literally everyone could see you naked while showering: free porno. 1:30 at night my husband calling to receptionist and trying to explain but he won’t understand. We asked if it’s possible to change the room and answer given was “hotel fully booked”. Personally took a photo and whent down. Receptionist was saying he will be back to room in 5 minutes. During all that time we were going in lift with totally strangers as on the top of the hotel was party and loudly music. Receptionist came quick enough and tried to fix but couldn’t. So he said he will call to technician at 2 o’clock in the morning. We were waiting. Finally he called by phone to the room and said he found for us another room we need to come down with everything. So we went , took another key and end it up in room 514. We had emergency call from family and we had to leave hotel very early in the morning and come back to home. We left hotel before 7 am on the same night before we arrived. Literally with bearly 3 hours of sleep because of all those movements. On all stress after emergency call from family, we done check out before 7am on 9th of May. The same receptionist didn’t even said sorry. We also paid city taxes for 3 days. We won’t offer a refund for the rest of 2. Nothing. On 10th of May at evening i got notification that €14 was deducted from my revolut. My husband immediately called them. And they said because you uded white wine. We left hotel after few hours from checking in, done check out and deducted money only after 36 hours. Money was returned but all that service, stress, absolutely worst experience. I read all reviews about this hotel but couldn’t believe until I wasn’t the part of it. If it’s possible avoid. Don’t distroy your trip by staying in this hotel.
What a great hotel. The staff are lovely and very friendly, especially Damien, Joaquin and Carlos. The hotel smells devine and is super clean throughout. The location is great 15-20 minutes walk to most destinations. The rooms are comfortable and quiet. We loved the spa and pool area and even received complimentary cava on the last day. Lovely touch. We'd definitely stay again and would recommend to anyone 10/10
We had a fabulous stay at the Axel Barcelona. Damien on reception was so welcoming, always greating us with a smile and being super helpful with any questions we had. He also gave us great advice on places to visit, marking local areas of interest on a tourist map for us. The metro and local sightseeing buses were all just a short walk away. Our room was lovely and clean on arrival. When the balcony doors were open there was street noise, but when they were closed it was super quiet which was perfect. Loved the roof top bar for an afternoon drink. Would definitely visit again. 😁
I love Axel Hotels. They are hotels that are LGBTQ friendly with style, class and sexy. Axel Hotel Barcelona fits that description. Extremely good location, lots of restaurants and nightlife nearby. The rooftop bar is lively and the breakfast buffet is massive. Service was excellent. The front desk crew is exceptional, helpful and friendly. Always a smile. Joaquin was amazing, so charming and cute, he was a delight to see everytime I passed the front desk. Always helpful, professional with a smile that will make you fall in love. Axel Hotel is the place for any LGBTQ traveler to stay in Barcelona. 🏳️🌈🏳️🌈🏳️🌈
When I stayed at the Axel Barcelona for the first time hardly anyone knew about the place. After two decennia of visiting this hotel some two or three times a year it may be obvious that I love this place. If you want to know why I recommend to read my many previous reviews from which you’ll learn about the fantastic location, the great atmosphere, the liberal mindset and above all the staff who carry out the shining of the hotel stars. The superb service-with-a-smile of Joaquin and the entire front desk team is unprecedented. The hospitable presence of General Manager Carlos and Region Manager Efraim who are around in the breakfast room every morning makes you feel a valued guest while the breakfast itself is a feast for the eye as well as for the stomach. Here it is Elisabeth and José who take care of you with full attention. Yes, I know all their names … and they know mine … that means something, doesn’t it? The street on which the Axel hotel is located alongside, has undergone a total reconstruction the recent years, turning Carrer del Concell de Cent into a pedestrian area, inviting to a pleasant walk almost all the way to Sagrada Familia. The Axel hotel itself is renovating all the time (this year the rooftop plunge pool and the sauna in the basement). All this makes the Axel Barcelona gain popularity … and not only among the LGBTQIA+ community. It’s evident that the entire straight market has found its way to this “hetero friendly” hotel. So if you want stay here you better be quick … !
Highlights: the hotel s location and bedding. On the other hand, the rooms are to be renovated, we feel the wear of time on the floors. Even more disappointing: the welcome. If the staff is not "unpleasant", it is very far from the warm communication displayed by the hotel on its supports. This discrepancy between marketing and the reality on the ground is glaring. Please for breakfast put the coffee in self-service,! At 250th a night, the count is not there. I will not come back.
It's all good 👍
Its a nice budget friendly hotel Mattress not very comfortable, the iron is leaking and hairdryer so weak Not enough surfaces to put our stuff on Floor has no run/carpet Tv very old we cant connect our phone or wifi
Even though I didn’t stay at Axel Hotel Barcelona, I spent an afternoon enjoying their rooftop pool and bar, and it was such a great experience that I would absolutely consider staying here on a future trip. The rooftop is the perfect place to relax on a hot Barcelona day. The pool area is comfortable, the bar serves great drinks, and the atmosphere is welcoming, friendly, and laid-back. Whether you’re looking to cool off, enjoy the sunshine, or just unwind with a cocktail, it’s a fantastic spot to spend a few hours. One of the biggest advantages is the location. The hotel is in a prime, central area of Barcelona and within walking distance of so many attractions, restaurants, shops, and nightlife. It makes an excellent home base for exploring the city. The staff and guests created a warm and inclusive environment, and I felt welcome from the moment I arrived. Based on my experience at the rooftop alone, I would definitely consider booking a stay here next time I’m in Barcelona.
Such a fun rooftop bar! Great vibes, great bartenders and great drinks. Will always love returning here.
At 10:30 AM there's no bar service for a coffee... That's exclusivity, isn't it?
Amazing hotel and a wonderful experience from start to finish. The staff were professional, welcoming, and always ready to help. Special thanks to Adrià for the excellent service. Highly recommended! we would happily stay here again!
The hotel was excellent, with a wonderful atmosphere and an amazing location that made it easy to access everything around the city. The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly throughout our stay. Our flight was scheduled for the evening, so we needed somewhere to store our luggage while we explored the city. We asked if the hotel could help, and although many other hotels we have stayed at did not offer this service, they were happy to store our luggage for us. This was a huge convenience and saved us a lot of time and hassle. The room was comfortable and well maintained, and the overall experience exceeded our expectations. A special thank you to Joaquin and his team for their excellent service and hospitality. We truly appreciated their help and would happily stay here again.
I would like to thank Joaquin and his team for treating us so nicely throughout the whole journey. Vibes are good around here, the rooftop is amazing during day and night. Definitely will comeback next time to try the pool and other facilities. I really recommend this place to stay either for short or long
Update: While I appreciate management’s response to my review, the fact that it was made sooner than a reply to an email sent weeks ago (still unanswered) is consistent with the experiences I mention below. It does not suggest a willingness to address feedback and improve. Original review: The location is excellent, and the building has a lot of potential. The bones of the room we were in, with both an open balcony and a small alcove with beautiful stained glass, were grand. The flooring in the main part of the room was a cheap veneer that seemed like it could peel off at any moment and the carpet in the alcove seemed dirty, which brought down the quality of the room, and some of the decor could also use an update. Being by far the most expensive hotel we stayed in during our two weeks in Spain — with others having private terraces or better amenities — it was disappointing. I think where I was most surprised by the experience was the poor service. I’m not a high-maintenance guest who demands to be treated like royalty, but there were basic failures. First of all, we never received hand soap. We asked maids, we checked after room service every day, and eventually we bought our own because we did not want to keep stepping into the shower to get bath gel. It was so strange. Secondly, we had travel disruptions on our way and they never responded to or even acknowledged our emails. Afterward, when we emailed the manager, we also went an extremely long time without hearing from them and had to CC another Axel email just to get a reply. Recent emails have also gone unanswered for very long periods. Again, very unusually poor service for something that is low effort. Finally, what was the most surprising experience was when my husband asked where we might go nearby to hail a taxi. The front desk person told him it was not his job to know that. I’m not even sure what more to say because it was so hilariously bad. Again, this seems to be a unique failure of this location. We stayed at the newer Axel in Valencia and had a thoroughly positive experience. This one seems to be showing its age and mismanagement. Maybe try 2 if you still want an Axel in Barcelona.
Friendly staff, nice details, good breakfast and a lovely bar and rooftop terrace, also nice other guests.
Very nice place and excellent service
Everything was good, staff know what they are doing. The only downside was the bathroom size.
My wife and I had an excellent stay! Initially, we were a little apprehensive due to the hotel's concept, but we were pleasantly surprised. All the staff are very respectful and knowledgeable, especially Joaquin, who attended to us with great attention and promptness. The location is perfect for exploring Barcelona. Don't miss the Sky Bar; the experience there was super relaxed and enjoyable. It's definitely worth it!
