The Dover Castle at 34 Dover Street is Leicester's longest-running gay pub. It calls itself one of the oldest gay venues in the UK, and local pub historians record gay drinkers here since the 1960s. It is a proper pub rather than a club, with a regular cabaret and drag programme; Sunday drag bingo is the night most people mention. CAMRA's October 2025 survey lists it open Wednesday and Thursday 17:00–00:00, Friday and Saturday 17:00–01:00 and Sunday 16:00–00:00, closed Monday and Tuesday. The pub's old website has lapsed, so check its Facebook page for the week's acts. It is two minutes from Granby Street and ten from the station.
