The honest summary: Edmonton has one gay bar in 2026, EVO on Jasper Avenue. Everything else on a night out is either a gay-friendly mainstream bar or a pop-up queer party in a rented room. That is less than older guides suggest, because several of the bars they list have closed.
EVO (Evolution Wonderlounge)
EVO is at 11508 Jasper Avenue, on the corner of 115 Street in Oliver, at the west end of downtown. Evolution ran a basement club on 103 Street from 2013. In April 2025 it opened this street-level room in the former Reign lounge, with a kitchen, and in November 2025 it closed the basement, so this is the one address now. CTV called it an LGBTQ2S+ bar when it opened, and that is what it is: the place Edmonton's queer crowd goes out.
The calendar on yourgaybar.com is the reliable source for what is on. Through autumn 2026 it ran:
- Monday and Wednesday: karaoke
- Thursday: trivia
- Friday: DJ and circuit nights
- Saturday: DJs and themed parties
- Sunday: a drag revue
- Monthly: a leather social and a FAB social, plus touring drag shows
- Fruit Loop Society of Alberta: volunteer-run since 2013. It throws dance parties, including a Pride dance at the Starlite Room, and Halloween and themed nights.
- Edmonton Lesbian Event Network (ELEN): sapphic pop-up dances and socials. Edmonton has no lesbian bar, so this is the place to look.
- Drag brunches at Kelly's Pub on 104 Street, and drag nights at music venues around Whyte Avenue.
- Queer kink and rave nights pop up at the Starlite Room and similar rooms, especially around Halloween and Pride.
- Evolution Wonderlounge on 103 Street closed in November 2025. It continues as EVO on Jasper Avenue.
- SOHO on Jasper Avenue closed in January 2025.
- Buddy's Nite Club (closed 2015), Woody's (closed 2016), The Junction (closed 2012) and Prism (closed 2010) still show up in old guides and maps.
- KNetic Club on 114 Street is a members-only swingers and lifestyle club, not a gay bar.
- EVO and Steamworks, the city's bathhouse, are a few blocks apart on Jasper Avenue, so Oliver is the easiest base for a night out.
- Whyte Avenue and Jasper Avenue are about 15 minutes apart by taxi. In winter, don't plan to walk it.
- Pride weekend in late August (August 21–23 in 2026) is the busiest time of year at EVO.
It rates 4.3 on Google from about 480 reviews. Weekends are busiest. The schedule moves around, so check it on the day.
The Black Dog Freehouse (gay-friendly)
The Black Dog is a mainstream pub at 10425 Whyte Avenue in Old Strathcona, best known for its rooftop patio. It isn't a gay bar. It is on the same stretch as Pride Corner, at Whyte Avenue and Gateway Boulevard, where locals gather on Friday evenings and which the city officially recognised in 2022. It is a reasonable first drink on the south side, and EVO is about 3 km away.

Queer parties without a bar of their own
Much of Edmonton's queer nightlife is organised by groups rather than venues:
The events list on our Edmonton page collects EVO's calendar, Pride Edmonton's listings and community sources, so it is the quickest way to see what is on during your dates.
