Cleaning staff were great Front desk staff super friendly and happy to give information about places to eat and visit around town. Only downfalls were we had no hot water for a day and a half , and the pool was like doing a polar plunge (way to cold) There was a step going into the bathroom which could be dangerous at night. We had the room with a basic kitchen which was good. Awesome location close to everything. Would stay again for sure
Escorted out by police as a paying guest — during a tropical storm warning I need to warn other travelers about Hotel Rio Malecón in Puerto Vallarta. On October 11, the owner evicted every guest in the hotel — including me — even though my room was paid through October 13. No refund, no real explanation. Just out. On October 16, I came back and booked another night through Priceline. I stayed that night with my dogs. No issues, no complaints. On October 17, after booking and paying for an additional night through Priceline, I went down to the front desk as a courtesy to ask if they wanted me to change rooms. Instead of answering, the staff rudely demanded to know where my animals were, accused me of "sneaking them in," and informed me the pet policy had "changed months ago" — so I had to leave immediately. That policy change doesn't exist. This hotel advertises itself as pet-friendly on every major booking site — "pets allowed," "dogs allowed," "pets allowed for a fee." They market to dog owners and then invent a policy to throw them out. We chose this hotel because of that policy. When I disputed this, they claimed their security cameras showed me sneaking the dogs in. That is completely false — we did nothing of the sort, and I told them so. I invite them to release that footage publicly. It will show exactly what I said: nothing. They told me to leave again. I said I would not leave without a refund for the night I had just paid for. They told me to "deal with Priceline" for my refund and get off their property or they would have the police remove me. So I said go right ahead — and sat down. They called the police. The municipal policía escorted my girlfriend, my dogs, and me off the property. As paying guests. Holding a valid, paid booking. For sitting down and asking for a refund. And here's the part that should end this hotel: Puerto Vallarta was under an active tropical storm warning at the time — Hurricane Trudy, beaches closed, port shutting down, orange alert from civil protection. They took my money and put us on the street into that. In fairness: the afternoon front desk person was the one decent part of this place. She helped me recover my $150 iPhone charger from housekeeping after the morning's chaos. She deserved better than this hotel too. A hotel that sends police after its own paying guests — twice in six days — and turns them out during a tropical storm isn't a hotel. It's a liability. There are a hundred places to stay in Vallarta. Pick any other one.
