Whitman-Walker Health is an absolute pillar of the community, living up to its motto of providing affirming, expert, and compassionate care for all. Having an amazing experience with them years ago, I can proudly say still clean today—the facility remains impeccably run, professional, and welcoming from the moment you walk through the doors. My counselor, Chris, was phenomenal. What truly sets their care apart is the brilliant philosophical approach that seamlessly bridges deep insight with practical daily life skills. Instead of just talking through challenges, they equip you with actionable, real-world tools that genuinely transform your day-to-day life. The entire environment is inclusive, supportive, and deeply focused on holistic well-being. Highly recommend this incredible institution to anyone looking for top-tier, compassionate healthcare and counseling!
Few businesses mean better than Whitman Walker, but the reason of the 3 stars as opposed to 5 comes from the communication and mgmt side. Expect long hold times for the pharmacy.. so much so that I dread having to call. I'm 63 and these are some of the worst hold times I've ever experienced unless you get lucky. They all seem a little overwhelmed.
Missing and/or conflicting info from the appointment scheduling call all the way to when i actually showed up for the appointment, where building security was simultaneously giving me the runaround as to where to go AND telling me “keep smiling and someone will give you a check” (wild to say to anyone, but sexism when you’re coming in to a ‘safe space’ to get testosterone is layers of wild). This saga culminated in me missing my appointment with no chance to be seen for another two weeks. Waste of a commute, won’t be returning.
Years ago, I had a couple frustrating experiences at Whitman-Walker, but recently I used their urgent care and it was great: easy to book, reasonable wait, and able to get meds at the pharmacy. Sarah King and Sasha were efficient, knowledgeable, and personable.
I had a great experience here with my provider, Pele Solell-Knepler. I look forward to returning under her care! She was kind, attentive, and did an excellent job listening and problem-solving with me. I really appreciated how supported and heard I felt throughout the appointment.
My child goes to this clinic and has for years but we are constantly battling getting them their medication on time. The doctors don't respond. The apps are unhelpful and glitched. And they are often times delayed on their medication. It's like they make you jump through hoops for absolutely no reason other than lack of order. And let me tell you I do not want to be responded to by an AI bot apologizing for the lack of care and the abandonment of their Hippocratic Oath. Buyer beware..
This review is for the phlebotomists at this location. I'm in and out a lot and some days are worse than others but they're always so helpful and kind and make me feel a lot better when I have to get through all kinds of tests. I really appreciate them.
There’s seemingly a lapse in Administrative oversight for this once added benefit to our community. In a nutshell Whitman-Walker clinic is disappointing! Not a matter of one poor experience but reflects long-term, systemic failures in communication, organization, and patient support. The medical providers deserve better infrastructure, and the patients deserve basic reliability and respect. BT
I registered as a new patient, finally got my appointment. I work a few miles away so I rode my scooter. Walked in the door and was turned away. They have a strict no scooter policy. It would have been nice to know that in advance. It must be nice that they can turn patience away. I will never return to this place.
I am giving Whitman-Walker 2 stars instead of 1 because their medical professionals are great. The staff, not so much... I have been a patient here for almost 5 years, and the staff has been consistently difficult, rude, condescending, and often unhelpful. I am met with hostility for asking basic job responsibilities (e.g., literally scheduling an appointment) and a complete lack of care. I see specialty doctors at Medstar and Georgetown, and have none of these concerns there. If Whitman-Walker strives to advertise itself as an LGBTQ+ informed and safe space, then the staff needs to understand what this really means. It isn’t uncommon for trans people to avoid health care because of how we are treated. The staff is so bad that I wouldn't clinic here if I didn’t need HRT.
They finally have a new system for patient management. The app actually works and provides information and makes communication with practitioners quite easyl. Making and changing appointments is also easier
I used to be a big proponent of this service, but can no longer recommend them. It is extremely hard to get a hold of a person on the phone during their posted hours, it sometimes takes multiple days of calling more than four times at different times of day to reach them. Every visit, they have you do intake paperwork that you filled out previously, which adds at least a good twenty minutes each time. If you can get a full doctor’s appointment on the 3rd floor, you may receive quality care. But the bureaucracy and difficulty in doing so has greatly enshittified what once was a good service. I was turned away from my appointment after finding out my insurance wasn’t accepted and I couldn’t pay the full rate. This was right above a poster that said your inability to pay will not bar you from treatment. Later, I found out my insurance was accepted by Whitman-Walker, but that the employee entered my information wrong. Overall a very frustrating experience.
I had a fantastic experience at Whitman-Walker Health dental clinic. The staff was incredibly kind, professional, and made me feel comfortable from the moment I walked in. The office is clean, modern, and very well run. What stood out most was how much they genuinely care about their patients—you feel respected and in great hands. Highly recommend!
The staff is amazing I have never had a Rude experience❤️❤️
Had an appointment but when I showed up they didnt have any recollection of it. I asked if the phone calls were recorded. They checked the recording and heard that I did have an appointment. I had to go to the er out of town and was in their icu for 3 days. This is already a challenging and scary experience. I came to Whitman Walker to follow up and instead of reassuring me and providing health care and advice. I was forgotten about and pushed aside....given an appointment another week and a half away. The gentlemen that came and told me the bad news were nice though
I’ve had good experiences with both NPs Joseph Cribb and Sarah King at WWH.
