Gay Bars & Clubs in West Hollywood: The Honest 2026 Guide

The honest summary: WeHo has about twenty LGBTQ+ bars and clubs, and almost all of them are on one mile of Santa Monica Boulevard, the Rainbow District. You can walk the whole thing in fifteen minutes. The scene spans the big-name Abbey, ticketed drag clubs, cheap dives, three gay sports bars and, since July 2026, a lesbian bar. The bars change hands often: half the names in a 2019 guide no longer exist. This list was checked in October 2026.

The big rooms

The Abbey and The Chapel

The Abbey Food & Bar (692 N Robertson Blvd) is the one everyone has heard of. It's a sprawling indoor-outdoor bar and restaurant with food from late morning, DJs and dancing at night, and drag brunch at weekends. It was sold to Tristan Schukraft in January 2024, and the management stayed. The Chapel next door (696 N Robertson, opened 2016 in the old Here Lounge) is its dance room. Expect a line on Friday and Saturday, and WeHo drink prices.

Micky's

Micky's (8857 Santa Monica Blvd) has been a two-storey gay club since 1989. Its own calendar shows go-go happy hours, Monday Showgirls, Tuesday Toy Boy, Wednesday karaoke, horror drag shows and Latin nights until 4am on Fridays and Saturdays. At weekends there's Saturday "Brunch with the Divas" and the Sunday Latin drag brunch "Las Reinas". The owners of Hamburger Mary's bought it in October 2024 and kept it as it was.

The two Beaches

Two different venues share the name. Beaches Tropicana (8911) is a ticketed drag and performance club in the building that was The Rage and then Heart WeHo, and it has been Beaches Tropicana since 2024. Across the street, Beaches WeHo (8928) is the original: a two-storey Cuban-Californian restaurant and lounge with the WIPEOUT Sundays drag brunch.

Revolver, Mattie's and The Wild

Revolver (8851, at Larrabee) is a gay-owned video bar that has been there since 1984. It opens at 5pm on weekdays and 4pm at weekends, with Homeroom Wednesdays, BRAT Thursdays and Flashback Saturdays. Mattie's (8900, at San Vicente) replaced Rocco's and opened in May 2026 as a restaurant-bar-club with drag and drag brunch. The Wild (8945, ex-Saint Felix) is a jungle-themed cocktail bar with DJs, go-gos and Drag Race viewings.

Women's bar

SweetWater (8869 Santa Monica Blvd) is a lesbian and sapphic bar and nightclub with live music and DJ parties. It opened officially in July 2026 and is WeHo's first dedicated women's bar since The Palms closed in 2013. Reported hours are Wednesday to Friday 6pm to 2am, and weekends from noon.

Dives and neighbourhood bars

    • Trunks (8809) is cheap and strong, with pool tables, sports on TV and happy hour from 1pm to 8pm. It's open from 1pm (noon on Sunday) until 2am.
    • Mother Lode (8944) is a small old-school dive with a local crowd. Its schedule is on Instagram.
    • The Bayou (8939) is a tiny New Orleans-themed dive with Cajun bites, no cover and Sunday brunch.
    • Schmitty's (8737) has a piano instead of a DJ and a heated patio. It's open from 3pm on weekdays and 1pm at weekends, and happy hour runs from 4pm.
    • Roosterfish (8948, at Robertson) is an olive-tree garden patio in the old Pump space, with happy hour daily from 5pm to 8pm.
    • Fiesta Cantina (8865) is a cheap Mexican bar with a big street patio and Wednesday karaoke.
    • OR Bar (8228, east end) is a disco-styled cocktail lounge in the old Gold Coast. It's a coffee bar by day and hosts Disco Bingo.
    • Hamburger Mary's (8288, east end) has nightly drag, drag brunch and charity drag bingo. Book ahead.

    Sports bars

There are three. GymBar (8919) is the original. It moved here in 2021, and new owners took over in 2025. Hi Tops (8933) is the WeHo branch of the San Francisco gay sports bar, with trivia on Tuesdays. 33 Taps (8941, ex-Stache) is queer-owned and has 33 drafts and drag bingo.

    Closed or changed

Rage (8911), Gold Coast (8228) and Flaming Saddles (8811) all closed in 2020. Heart became Beaches Tropicana in 2024. Stache closed in July 2024 and is now 33 Taps. Rocco's is now Mattie's, Pump is Roosterfish, and Saint Felix is The Wild. Fubar has closed, and its replacement hadn't been named as of October 2026. The Palms, the old lesbian bar, closed in 2013. Vaseline Alley, the old cruising alley, is history, and we don't list it.

    Practical tips

    • Thursday to Sunday are the big nights. Sunday afternoon is drag brunch time, so book.
    • Last call is 2am under California law. Bring ID: every door checks.
    • The free WeHo PickUp shuttle runs along Santa Monica Blvd on Friday and Saturday nights (8pm to 3am) and Sunday afternoons.
    • There's no gay sauna in WeHo. See our West Hollywood guide for where to go instead.
