Bar 100 is the closest thing Maputo has to an identifiably LGBTQ+-friendly bar — not an exclusively gay venue, but a longstanding Baixa institution with a consistent reputation among Maputo's gay community and the international visitors who ask where to go. The Baixa location puts it in the heart of the city's commercial and social center, walkable from the main hotels and accessible from the Sommerschield area by taxi. The crowd is mixed: Mozambican professionals, expats, NGO workers, and LGBTQ+ regulars who have made it one of the few visible gathering points in a city where the gay scene is largely private. Cold Laurentina beer, reasonable cocktails, and a relaxed atmosphere that does not require explanation or performance.
