What reviewers say

Visitors praise the Hotel Pestana Rovuma for its central location, spacious and clean rooms with good city and sea views, and its traditional style. However, a common complaint is that the breakfast is unsatisfactory with limited options, and some guests were unhappy about the swimming pool being closed without prior notification.

About this place Hotel Pestana Rovuma

The Hotel Pestana Rovuma is Maputo's leading international hotel — a property of the Portuguese Pestana Group that has been the city's reference point for business travel and diplomatic accommodation for decades. The central location in the Baixa, within walking distance of the main government buildings, embassies, and seafront, makes it the most convenient base in Maputo. For LGBTQ+ travelers, the Pestana brand's European ownership and operating standards translate directly: same-sex couples are welcomed as a matter of professional routine, staff are trained to international hospitality standards, and there is no ambiguity about the welcome. The pool, restaurants, and bar are available to guests; the breakfast buffet is among the best in the city. Portuguese management means the food quality at the hotel's restaurant is reliably good by the standards of a sub-Saharan African business hotel.

The View and Food Offer Comfort, But Major Room Issues Impede the Stay I recently stayed at this hotel and walked away with a highly mixed experience. To start with the positives, the view from the hotel is quite nice and definitely stands out as one of the highlights of the property. Additionally, the food served here is decent. It is not necessarily great or fine dining by any means, but it is good, reliable, and perfectly fine for a regular meal. Unfortunately, the downsides heavily outweighed these positives. The property as a whole feels very old and outdated, desperately needing a modern refresh. This aged feeling extends straight into the guest rooms, which lack the absolute basics you expect from standard accommodation. I was highly disappointed to find no basic toothbrush kit or slippers provided. To make matters worse, there was only a single towel left in the toilet, which is completely unacceptable for a comfortable stay. The most concerning issue, however, was the overwhelming presence of mosquitoes inside the room. It was incredibly annoying trying to relax or get a good night's sleep, but beyond the frustration, it also represents a serious health hazard that management needs to address immediately. While the view and meals were a nice touch, the lack of basic amenities and the severe mosquito problem made for a highly frustrating and uncomfortable stay. I hope they take steps to improve their room standards and pest control soon.
