The counter was unprofessional and lacked warmth. No toothbrushes, no slippers, no laundry bags, no bottled water, no coffee—basically, nothing at all…
I stayed at the Carl's Bazaar Grand Hotel on August 7th, arriving around 3 PM. Upon check-in, they said the room was ready and I could move in early. The room was at the very end, a bit far XD. The adult bed was a standard double bed, and the bathroom and toilet were separate. The play area on the ninth floor is more suitable for preschool children. There are story time sessions on weekend afternoons and evenings; after listening to a story, you can get a sticker gift. -- The brunch was excellent, with two hours to eat after entering. Especially the freshly ground Starbucks coffee. The only thing I think needs improvement is that, since it's a family-friendly hotel, could they offer freshly squeezed juice, or even just reconstituted juice? The restaurant only had concentrated syrup juice (strictly speaking, not juice at all), which was a pity.
The front desk staff were very polite and friendly. On the day of our check-in, there happened to be an air defense drill in a central town, and the receptionist quickly helped us check in so we could get to our room and avoid being stuck in the lobby – very thoughtful! The room was clean and tidy. Although we stayed in a room facing the Ministry of Health and Welfare Taichung Hospital, I felt the soundproofing of the windows was quite good; we didn't hear ambulances constantly. I slept quite well that night.
Listen to this advice! Check reviews before joining a popular online tour group. The basic rooms are tiny, utilizing the entire floor to its fullest potential. A 24-inch suitcase can't even be opened on the floor in the basic room. There's carpet on the floor, but no slippers are provided; bring your own if you mind. Staying on the 8th floor is terrible; the 9th floor is a play area, and you'll constantly hear children running around. The breakfast is amazing—delicious and varied, but that's about it. The parking lot is small and run-down, with tiny spaces. If you're driving an SUV, be careful of the distance between your car and the parking space, or you won't be able to open the door. The children's play area costs extra: 350 for children and 100 for adults, unlimited access during your stay. In conclusion, I will not return.
The room rate is around $5000 per day, extremely low value for money! The reviews seem to be fabricated. Cons: Check-in took a whopping 15 minutes! The room type and decor are like an apartment! The children's playroom required an extra fee today, which was shocking! No slippers, bottled water, or even cheap coffee packets or drinks were provided in the room! The TV channel 4 was intermittent! The elevator wait was very long during check-out! Today, the room type had no exterior window; be aware of potential hazards! The underground parking lot was chaotic, dark, and scary! The double bed (one adult and one child) was too small! For some reason, there was a lot of noise near the bed; the child was very scared!
