We had a delicious meal with our family. The staff was friendly and attentive. The only downside was the outrageously expensive water.

Whenever we're in Hamburg, we always try to eat at Philipps. We've never been disappointed. The combination of a relaxed, sophisticated, and cozy atmosphere with the excellent food is always a treat for us! It's also worth mentioning that even with a small child, we've always felt welcome and comfortable in this upscale restaurant (kids' menu, coloring book, etc.)! We'll definitely be back!

For those short on time: A lovely and cozy restaurant where you're greeted by wonderful staff and served delicious and beautifully presented food. My wife and I celebrated our wedding anniversary yesterday with a wonderful evening at Philipps. It was our first time there, but certainly not our last. The restaurant is located in the basement and has a cozy atmosphere; probably because the interior isn't very spacious but rather quite winding. You can sit at very open tables in the middle of the restaurant, but there are also a few very intimate booths for two people or small groups. The interior is calm and uncluttered, with simple light-dark contrasts and white walls. I personally found this very appealing, but my wife, who sometimes prefers a more playful style, also liked it and felt comfortable. Thanks to the beautiful weather, we were lucky enough to find the garden open and were able to sit at a table there. The tranquility of the garden, located in the courtyard, was remarkable. You're completely unaware of the hustle and bustle of the surrounding Karolinenviertel district. The team was genuinely friendly, natural, and relaxed. Throughout the evening, we had brief, informal conversations with everyone and felt personally and well looked after by each of the three staff members. The dress code was equally relaxed. Linen and jeans, polo shirts and Hawaiian shirts were just as common as colorful summer dresses and simple black T-shirts – one couple even dressed up in more elegant evening wear (we didn't). As for the food, I can only say that we were both delighted with everything that arrived at our table. Delicious breads to nibble on, beautifully presented plates, fresh, flavorful ingredients, and perfectly seasoned. The restaurant also demonstrated excellent taste with the amuse-bouche, sending out a refreshing gazpacho after a hot day in the city. We didn't order from a set menu but chose dishes from the à la carte menu. A quick aside: I'm a big eater, and it shows. The main courses were really substantial, so even I was completely satisfied! Those with smaller appetites or a lighter build shouldn't hesitate to ask for a smaller portion – the restaurant is happy to accommodate requests. As a result, we didn't have room for dessert and finished the evening with coffee and long drinks. We found the prices absolutely reasonable; I was happy to pay every penny. The menus with prices are also clearly displayed on the Philipps website. The reaction of our children speaks volumes. They couldn't resist texting us to ask where we were – after all, we'd only gone out to get something to eat! In short: With Philipps, the owner has succeeded in creating a truly wonderful place right in the heart of the city. Thank you!

*** Wow *** from beginning to end. Adjusting our reservation at short notice to include two more people was no problem at all, and communication regarding the details was open and honest. We had taken our seats inside and were then allowed to move to the newly vacated table in the courtyard garden before we even ordered (without having to ask) – amazing!! Changing the first course of the four-course menu due to an intolerance was no issue. The entire service that evening was attentive without being intrusive – great explanations of the individual components and accompanying wines. The main course wasn't exceptional in terms of flavor, but the cheesecake dessert was the highlight at the end. The team communicated the (repeated 😅) request to move inside due to the neighbors, the last round, and the restaurant's closing very charmingly. *** Thank you for the wonderful evening ***

Everything was perfect and delicious....

A wonderful and absolutely perfect evening for us. The food was fantastic, both sophisticated and down-to-earth, simply delicious. The wines were perfectly paired and presented. The service was incredibly warm and welcoming! The charming and romantic courtyard was a perfect place to relax, and the interior was also very cozy and lovely. We'll be back and are already looking forward to it. A real culinary highlight in Hamburg for us! Thank you again for the delicious birthday surprise!

Excellent cuisine, drinks are priced very high (0.5 l Geroldsteiner €5.90), wines are good but marked up by 350-400%, which is unnecessary and unfortunately too expensive.
